International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is marked on 04 June
The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is marked on 4 June every year, to protect the rights of children. This day aims to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse.

WHA Declares January 30 as World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day
The World Health Assembly of the WHO has declared to officially observe ‘World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) Day’ from now onwards on January 30 every year. This decision was unanimously agreed upon by the member states on May 28, 2021 during the 74th World Health Assembly, held from May 24th to June 1st 2021. The proposal to recognise the day was made by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The first World NTD Day was celebrated informally in 2020.

Maharashtra govt to implement MAPS to provide employment and training to youth of state
The Maharashtra government has decided to implement the Maharashtra Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (MAPS) with the objective of providing employment and training to the youth of the state. Under this Scheme, in the current year, apprenticeship opportunities will be provided to 1 lakh youth in various industries and establishments in the state

NATIONAL NEWS

Union Cabinet approves draft of Model Tenancy Act
The Union Cabinet has approved the draft of Model Tenancy Act (MTA) for adoption and enactment by States and Union Territories to promote rental housing in the country. MTA envisages to balance the interests and rights of both, the owner and tenant, in an accountable and transparent manner. A digital platform will be set up in the local vernacular language or the language of the State and Union Territory for this purpose. The MTA also provides for a time-bound and robust grievance redressal mechanism. The Centre has said that the Model Tenancy Act will make vacant houses available on rent as well as repose confidence of investors in the sector.

Govt announces Operational Guidelines for PLI Scheme for telecom and Networking equipment
The Government announced Operational Guidelines for Production Linked Incentive, PLI Scheme for telecom and Networking equipment. The scheme envisages to create global champions out of India who have the potential to grow in size and scale using cutting edge technology and thereby penetrate the global value chains.

Validity period of TET qualifying certificate extended from 7 years to lifetime
Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has announced that the Government has decided to extend the validity period of Teachers Eligibility Test qualifying certificate from seven years to lifetime. This will be implemented retrospectively from the year 2011.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Bangladesh allocates Tk 10,000 crore for COVID-19 emergency requirements
The Bangladesh budget for the Financial Year 2022 has allocated Tk 10,000 crore to meet the emergency requirements arising out of the COVID pandemic in the country. The allocation in the health sector has also gone up for FY 2022 with a proposed allocation of Tk 32,731 crore which marks an increase of Tk 3484 over the current year’s budget allocation of Tk 29,245 crore.

UNICEF reaches coronavirus vaccine supply agreement with Moderna
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said that it had reached an agreement with vaccine manufacturer Moderna to supply their international vaccination efforts against the Novel Corona virus. The vaccines will be supplied to UNICEF’s COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) facility. UNICEF said, the vaccines are expected to be delivered in the final quarter of 2021 and will be allocated in a way that reflects the program’s value of equity in access.

Ranjitsinh Disale appointed as Advisor to World Bank
Ranjitsinh Disale, the first Indian teacher to receive the Global Teacher Award has been appointed by the World Bank as an Advisor to the World Bank. The World Bank has appointed 12 advisors from world over and Mr. Disale is one of them representing India.

OBITUARY

Freedom fighter Kaliannan Gounder Who Was Last Surviving Member of First Parliament of India Passes Away
The noted Gandhian, and freedom fighter, T.M. Kalliannan Gounder, who was the last surviving member of the first parliament of India, has passed away. He was 101. Tamil Nadu based Kalliannan Gounder joined the Indian National Congress at 19, and also participated in the Quit India movement. He was elected to the Indian Constituent Assembly at the very young age of 28. Besides being the member of India’s first provisional parliament, 1950–1952, he was also the youngest member in the Indian Constituent Assembly then.
