International Everest Day is observed May 29
International Everest Day is celebrated every year on May 28. This day is observed in the memory of the first summit of Mount Everest by New Zealand’s Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay Sherpa that took place on 29th of May 1953. They were the first humans to scale the height of Mount Everest. To commemorate their achievement, in the year 2008, Nepal decided to celebrate International Everest Day every year on 29th of May.
World Digestive Health Day is observed May 29
Every year, the World Digestive Health Day (WDHD) is observed on 29 May. It is organised by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) in collaboration with the WGO Foundation (WGOF). Each year the day focuses upon a particular digestive disease and/or disorder in order to increase general public awareness of prevention, prevalence, diagnosis, management and treatment of the disease and/or disorder. The theme of WDHD 2021 is “Obesity: An Ongoing Pandemic.”
International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed May 29
The “International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers” is observed on May 29 annually to pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication, and courage and to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace. The 2021 Theme: “The road to a lasting peace: Leveraging the power of youth for peace and security.”
UP Govt launches Bal-Seva Yojana for children who lost their parents due to COVID
Uttar Pradesh Government also launched Bal-Seva Yojana for the children who lost their parents due to COVID pandemic. The State Government will provide financial assistance of Rs. 4,000 per month to such children. Government will also provide laptop/Tablet to such children if they are getting education in any school or are doing any professional course. Financial assistance of Rs. 1,01,000 will be provided for the marriage of girl children who lost their parents in this pandemic.
Assam govt announces CM’s Sishu Sewa Scheme for children who lost parents due to COVID-19
The Assam government has announced Chief Minister’s Sishu Sewa Scheme for the welfare of those children who lost parents due to COVID-19. Mr. Sarma said that monthly scholarship of Rs. 3,500 per month would be given to those children who lost their parents or the bread earner, but have their extended family members. On the other hand, those children who do have not extended family members they would get free residential educational facilities. Mr. Sarma further said that a girl would also be given one tola of gold and Rs. 50,000 during her marriage. He said that such children will also get free computer and also vocational training.
Tamil Nadu govt announces ₹5 lakh fixed deposit for children who lost parents to Covid
The Tamil Nadu Government has announced that an amount of Rs. 5 lakh would be deposited on the account of each orphaned child and would be given to the child with interest when the child attains 18 years of age. he Government also plans to pay Rs 3000 per month to the relatives who have the custody of the orphaned.
Centre allocates Rs. 5,117 crore grant to Madhya Pradesh under Jal Jeevan Mission
Central Government has allocated Rs. 5,117 crore grant to Madhya Pradesh under Jal Jeevan Mission to provide safe and potable piped drinking water to all the rural household in the state. Jal Shakti Ministry said, keeping in view the commitment of the state to make provision of tap water supply in every rural home by 2023, the first tranche of more than Rs. 1,184 crore have been released. Madhya Pradesh has one crore 23 lakh rural households, out of which more than 31 per cent have tap water supply at their homes.
NEERI of Nagpur develops new technology for COVID testing
In Maharashtra, a new technology has been developed by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute-NEERI of Nagpur for COVID testing. The Saline Gargle RT-PCR technique for testing of COVID samples is developed by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute of Nagpur which comes under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – CSIR. This technique has also been approved by the ICMR.
J&K becomes first UT to provide relief to COVID victims’ families
Jammu and Kashmir has become the first Union Territory to provide relief to COVID affected; Saksham to provide special pension and scholarship to COVID victims’ families. The Administrative Council (AC), under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today approved the grant of financial relief through Special Assistance Scheme for COVID Mortalities (SASCM/Saksham) to the families of COVID victims. Additionally, the scheme will also provide special scholarships to children who lost their earning parent(s)/sibling(s)/guardian(s) to COVID. The special scholarship will be paid annually at the rate of Rs. 20,000 through DBT to children studying up to 12th standard and Rs. 40,000 for higher education.
Ministry of Education launches YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme For Mentoring Young Authors
The Ministry of Education launched YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme For Mentoring Young Authors. It is an Author Mentorship programme to train young and budding authors belows 30 years. The launch of YUVA (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) is in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to encourage young writers to write about India’s freedom struggle. It was during Mann ki Baat in January this year that Prime Minister Modi called upon the young generation to write about freedom fighters, and incidents associated with freedom struggle.

Union Finance Ministry has constituted a Group of Ministers, GoM to look into the matter of concessions and exemptions from GST to COVID relief materials. Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma has been named as the Convenor of the GoM which is constituted of total eight members including Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat Nitinbhai Patel, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar, Transport Minister of Goa Mauvin Godinho and State Finance Ministers of Kerala, Odisha, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.
Aashritha V Olety Becomes India’s First Woman Flight Test Engineer
Aashritha V Olety, an officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF), has graduated from the Air Force Test Pilot School to become the first woman flight test engineer in the country. As a flight test engineer, Olety will be responsible for evaluating aircraft and airborne systems before their induction into the armed forces.
CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh gets additional charge of NIA
Director General of Central Reserve Police Force, CRPF Kuldiep Singh has been given additional charge of Director General of National Investigation Agency, NIA. Mr. Singh will hold the additional post after 31st or this month after superannuation of Y C Modi. Union Home Ministry has informed that Mr. Singh will continue to hold the additional charge till appointment of next DG, NIA or any further orders in this regard.
Jagjit Pavadia elected as President of Vienna based International Narcotics Control Board
Jagjit Pavadia, the former Narcotics Commissioner of India, has been elected as the President of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB). Pavadia, a retired officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Customs), is the first Indian to be appointed as the Chief of the international organization and the second woman to hold this office.
IPL’s remaining matches to be held in UAE in September-October this year
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the completion of the remaining matches of Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year. The BCCI SGM further authorised the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
