Manipur CM launches Oil Palm Project
In Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has launched the Oil Palm Project through video conferencing. The oil palm cultivation could be an alternative to jhum and poppy cultivation as oil palm is the highest vegetable oil yielding perennial crop with and effective income generation to farmers and beneficial to the environment as well.

Telangana govt announces 50% waiver in domestic property tax
The Telangana government on announced a 50 per cent waiver in property tax to (domestic) house owners in Hyderabad and 140 other towns across the state as a Deepavali gift, in view of the financial difficulties being faced by people following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Labour Ministry notifies draft rules under the Code on Social Security 2020
The Labour Ministry has notified Draft Rules under the Code on Social Security 2020. The draft rules provide for operationalization of provisions in the Code on Social Security, 2020 relating to Employees’ Provident Fund, Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, Gratuity, Maternity Benefit, Social Security and Cess in respect of Building and Other Construction Workers, Social Security for Unorganised Workers, Gig Workers and Platform Workers.

Bengaluru airport urges passengers to use bio-waste bins
The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has set up 139 bio-waste bins of different sizes across the airport for disposing used Personal Protective Equipment. The action is taken subsequent to incidents of PPEs found strewn across the airport campus, posing a health hazard to the passengers and staff. The Airport management has urged passengers to use bio-waste bins to ensure that bio-waste is disposed responsibly and ethically.

India, Nepal launch construction of third Integrated Check Post
India and Nepal have launched the construction of the third Integrated Check Post (ICP) between the two countries at Nepalgunj. India has traditionally been Nepal’s largest trading partner. Presently, over 65% of Nepal’s trade is with India with over 65% of Nepal’s exports sent to India.

8th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial meeting unanimously adopts BRICS STI Declaration 2020
The 8th BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation Ministerial meeting unanimously has adopted BRICS STI Declaration 2020. The meeting was held through a virtual platform. Science and Technology cooperation among the member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa was discussed in the meeting.

IFSCA approves draft Banking regulations for banking operations at IFSCs
International Financial Services Centres Authority, IFSCA has approved draft Banking regulations for banking operations at IFSCs. In its meeting yesterday, the IFSC Authority approved the International Financial Services Centres Authority (Banking) Regulations, 2020. This will pave the way for putting in place the rules for the various aspects of banking operations that would be permissible at the IFSC.

HDFC Life launches new campaign to support Covid-hit Mumbai’s ‘Dabbawalas’
HDFC Life in association with Ketto India has initiated a nationwide crowdfunding campaign, #PromisewalaDabba, with an aim to help the Dabbawalas of Mumbai stand on their feet once again with a month’s supply of ration delivered to their homes. The aim is to empower the community before they can bounce back resuming their deliveries across the city. The campaign kicked off with a visit to Wajawane, village of Dabbawala Service founder Mahadu Havaji Bache, where HDFC Life donated the initial batch of Dabbas to the community.

WHO approves 1st ever vaccine for emergency use against polio
The World Health Organization listed a polio vaccine produced by Indonesia’s Bio Farma PT for emergency use, the first approval of its kind amid outbreaks in several parts of the world. Bio Farma’s unlicensed nOPV2 dose is aimed at containing so-called circulating vaccine-derived polio viruses in several African and East Mediterranean countries as well as the Western Pacific and Southeast Asian regions, the WHO said in a statement.

DRDO successfully test-fires Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile system
The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), carried out a successful test of Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile system. The missile launch took place from ITR Chandipur, Odisha coast. The missile is propelled by a single-stage solid-propellant rocket motor and uses all indigenous subsystems. The missile is canisterised for transportation and launch using a mobile launcher capable of carrying 6 canisterised missiles, the defence ministry said in a release.

OBITUARY

Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee passes away
Veteran actor and Dadasaheb Phalke award recipient Soumitra Chatterjee passed away at a Kolkata Nursing home today. He was 85. The actor had been hospitalised on October 6, 2020, after being tested Covid positive. However, he was declared Covid negative later. But he succumbed to other ailments, the hospital sources say.
