Legal Services Day is observed on 9 November in India to raise awareness among the people where Legal Literacy is lacking. On this day, in 1995, the Legal Services Authorities Act was enforced.

Uttarakhand Foundation Day is observed on November 9
Uttarakhand was established on 9 November 2000. This year 20th Uttarakhand Foundation Day was celebrated. When it was formed its name was Uttaranchal and in 2007, it was changed to Uttarakhand formally. It is famous as the Land of Gods or “Dev Bhumi”.

Uttarakhand CM launches free Wi-Fi service for govt colleges, universities
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched free high-speed WiFi service for all government colleges and universities in the state. He launched the service at a college in his constituency Doiwala.

Indian Railways manufacture fifth narrow gauge locomotive for Kalka-Shimla route
Indian Railways’Loco Workshop, Parel in Mumbai which falls under the Central Railway zone has manufactured the fifth narrow gauge locomotive. The locomotive will be used in the Kalka-Shimla route which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Railway. The loco will be utilised for hauling passenger and goods trains on the Kalka- Shimla Railway Section of Ambala Division which falls under the Northern Railway. The loco will travel a distance of more than 1700 km Mumbai to Shimla which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for 30 development projects in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi. The projects for which foundation stones were laid, include the redevelopment of Dashashwamedh Ghat and Khidkiya Ghat, barracks for PAC police force, redevelopment of certain wards of Kashi, parking facility along with redevelopment of park in Beniya Bagh, upgradation of the multi-purpose hall in Girija Devi Sanskritik Sankul, repair work of roads in the city and development of tourist places.

Joe Biden announces 12 member task force to deal with COVID-19
US President-elect Joe Biden has announced a 12-member coronavirus task force to mount an effective response to the pandemic that has infected millions and damaged the US economy. The task force will be co-chaired by former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner David Kessler and Marcella Nunez-Smith, a professor of public health at Yale University. It will also include Ezekiel Emanuel, a former Obama administration health adviser.

NSE to launch first agricultural commodity futures contract next month
Leading stock exchange NSE said it will launch its first agricultural commodity futures contract for crude degummed soybean oil on December 1. The contract is a monthly expiry cash settled futures contract with a trading lot size of 10 metric ton (MT) and price basis as Kandla.

Tata Steel, POSCO join hands to develop hyperloop tubes
Tata Steel Europe and South Korea’s POSCO will collaborate to develop steel tubes needed for high-speed hyperloop transportation systems. Tata Steel and POSCO will develop high quality steel grades which are tailored for use in these large diameter tubes – up to 3.5m. Additionally, the companies will join their efforts in research on innovative tube concepts and designs.

Edelweiss Tokio Life Insurance has launched India’s first individual Covid-19 life insurance product, ‘Covid Shield+’ to secure people’s dreams and aspirations from the financial impact of a Covid-19 diagnosis. Tata Group launches test kits to detect COVID-19
Tata Medical and Diagnostics Ltd (TataMD) on Monday launched new diagnostic testing for COVID-19 claiming it to be more efficient and simpler than the existing ones with the ability to scale up test on a large scale across the country. The government-approved test, which can provide the final result within 90 minutes, will be manufactured at Tata’s plant in Chennai.

China set to start trial of nasal spray COVID-19 vaccine
Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Enterprise Co Ltd plans to start a mid-stage clinical trial this month of a nasal spray coronavirus vaccine in China, clinical trial registry data showed. An alternative to the common injection in the arm, the spray vaccine can trigger specific immune responses in airways by mimicking the natural infection of a respiratory virus, researchers said.

Veteran author & Gujarati columnist Father Carlos Gonzalez Valles SJ passes away
Veteran author and Gujarati columnist of Father Carlos Gonzalez Valles SJ, popularly known as Father Valles passed away. He was 95 and breathed his last in Spain. A Jesuit priest born in Spain, he was a Mathematics teacher in Gujarat. He wrote extensively in Gujarati, English and Spanish. He translated many mathematical concepts into Gujarati and coined terms for them.
