16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized on January 9
The 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is being organized on January 9, 2021. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) was celebrated on January 9th to commemorate the contribution of overseas Indian communities to the development of India (NRI). Since 2003, the PBD Convention has been held every year. Since 2015, the format been revised to celebrate PBD every two years. The theme of Article 16 of the 2021 PBD Convention is: “Contribution to Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.

Punjab declares whole state ‘Controlled Area’
Punjab Government has declared the whole state ‘Controlled Area’ in view of the outbreak of Avian Influenza Bird Flu affecting birds including poultry in the neighbouring states. In another major decision Punjab imposes complete ban on import of live birds including Poultry and unprocessed Poultry meat for any purpose into the state of Punjab with immediate effect till 15th January, 2021.

He said that Prime Minister’s Atma Nirbhar schemes have helped Indian scientists to formulate research activity in deep ocean research. Indian scientists were the first in the world to isolate the Coronavirus and begin genome sequencing of the virus braving the fight against Covid in an intelligent manner.

Gujarat government has issued a notification to restrict people from flying kites at public places during Makarsankranti festival due to COVID-19 pandemic. As per the notification issued by the state home department, any act of flying kites or assembling of persons at public places, open grounds or roads, streets will be prohibited.

Gujarat CM decides to create new Bagasara Prant in Amreli district
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has decided to create a new Bagasara Prant in Amreli district. This will take the state’s revenue services nearer to the people and provide services faster. The newly created Bagasara Prant would come into effect on 26th January, which includes Bagasara and Vadiya talukas in it.

Food Price Index of the F&A – FAO averaged 107.5 points in December 2020
Food Price Index of the Food & Agriculture Organization – FAO averaged 107.5 points in December 2020, which is an increase of 2.3 points from November 2020. This is the 7th consecutive month of growth. The food price index was established in 1996 as a public good. The Price Index is a public good in order to help monitoring the development of the global agricultural market.

First all-women AI cockpit crew to fly from San Francisco to Bengaluru
All-women cockpit crew will operate the inaugural San Francisco-Bengaluru flight. The Air India flight will fly on Saturday over the North Pole, taking the Atlantic route to reach Bengaluru.

High Level Committee to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
A High Level Committee, headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been constituted to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in a befitting manner. Union Culture Ministry has said that the High Level Committee will decide on the activities for a one year long commemoration, beginning 23rd January 2021.

US President-elect Joe Biden names two Indian Americans in National Security Council of White House
In the United States, the President-elect Joe Biden has appointed two Indian-Americans to the National Security Council of the White House. Biden has named Indian-American Sumona Guha as senior director for South Asia and Tarun Chhabra as senior director for Technology and National Security. Sumona Guha is currently serving as senior vice president at Albright Stonebridge Group. She was co-chair of the South Asia foreign policy working group during the Biden-Harris campaign. During the Obama-Biden administration, she was special advisor for national security affairs to the then Vice President Biden. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins and Georgetown University.

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki passed away
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki passed away. He was 94. A veteran Congress leader and the former External Affairs Minister Mr. Solanki had served four terms as Chief Minister of Gujarat. He is the father of Gujarat Congress leader and former Union Minister Bharatsinh Solanki. Madhavsinh Solanki served four times as Gujarat Chief Minister. He was elected to Rajya Sabha twice and served as External Affairs Minister.
