Odisha tourism launches its flagship Eco-Retreat program at 5 locations
Odisha Tourism launched its flagship Eco-Retreat program at 5 locations in the State. The event, inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik through virtual mode, aims at boosting tourism in the State. The five locations, namely Konark, Satakosia, Bhitarkanika, Daringibadi and Hirakud under the scheme are open to the tourists till February next year. Under the programme, accommodation facilities and services will be provided to tourists in luxury cottages in the identified locations.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

Cabinet approves ₹22,810 crore for wage subsidy via EPFO
The Union Cabinet approved an expenditure of ₹22,810 crore for a wage subsidy via employee’s provident fund organization (EPFO) as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana. The jobs scheme was announced by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to spur employment creation in the formal sector, albeit at the lower rung of the salary threshold. Cabinet has approved an expenditure of ₹1,584 crore for the current financial year and ₹22,810 crore for the entire Scheme period i.e. 2020-2023.

Govt to set up 1 cr data centres, to launch massive Wi-Fi networks called PM-Wani in India
The Union Cabinet decided to launch a PM- Wi-Fi Access Network Interface to unleash a massive WIFI network in India. With this, public data centres will be opened across the country, says Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. There will be no licence, fee or registration for it. The Union Minister also said that the proposal will promote growth of public Wi-Fi networks in the country.

AYUSH Ministry and AIIMS set up Department of Integrative Medicine at AIIMS
The Ministry of AYUSH and AIIMS have decided to initiate work on setting up a Department of Integrative Medicine at AIIMS. This was decided in a joint visit and review by Secretary, AYUSH Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha and Director, AIIMS, New Delhi Dr. Randeep Guleria. It was decided that the Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research, CIMR, AIIMS may develop an integrated protocol with Ayurveda and Yoga for study on Post COVID treatment. Secretary AYUSH assured that the Ministry of AYUSH will strive to continue its support to CIMR till the dedicated Department is developed.

Union Cabinet approved SEBI’s proposal to sign Bilateral MoU between India and Luxembourg
Union Cabinet had approved the proposal of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to sign Bilateral Memorandum of Understanding between India and Luxembourg. The MoU is likely to strengthen cross border cooperation in the area of securities regulations and facilitate mutual assistance.

Union Cabinet approved a MoU between India and Suriname on Cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine
The Union Cabinet had approved a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Suriname on Cooperation in the field of Health and Medicine. The bilateral MoU will encourage cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India and the Ministry of Health of Suriname through joint initiatives and technology development in the health sector. It will strengthen bilateral ties between India and Suriname.

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu will be first to get Pfizer COVID vaccine
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he’s going to demonstrate his faith in Pfizer Inc.’s coronavirus vaccine by being the first in the country to be inoculated. Netanyahu disclosed his plan following the delivery of the first shipment of the vaccine to Israel. He promised to bring millions of doses of vaccine to Israel, where morbidity figures have been climbing since the easing of the country’s second lockdown, imposed in mid-September.

BANKING & FINANCE

RBI cancels Karad Janata Sahakari Bank licence
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has canceled the licence of Karad Janata Sahakari Bank to conduct banking business citing that the bank does not have adequate finance. This means that the bank is prohibited from taking any deposit or making any repayment. RBI in a notice issued cited that the bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. However, more than 99% of the depositors of the bank will get full payment of their deposits from DICGC.

RTGS money transfer service to be operational 24X7
Reserve Bank of India announced that the Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) will be operational 24×7, all throughout the year from 14 December, 2020. This comes within a year of operationalising NEFT 24×7 by RBI. India will become one of the few countries in the world to operate its RTGS system round the clock throughout the year.

Maruti Suzuki launches online car financing platform ‘Smart Finance’
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announced the launch its digital platform, Smart Finance, to provide vehicle finance related services and information to its prospective customers. The new platform will include offers for vehicle loans from different banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and will be restricted to customers of Nexa, its premium dealerships in 30 cities.

DRDO successfully demonstrates quantum communication between two labs
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully demonstrated communication between its two labs using Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology. The Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) and The Research Centre Imarat (RCI) were the two labs that participated in this demonstration.

Govt to start 1000 Khelo India small centres to encourage sports culture in country
Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, said that the government has made various policy changes and taken up initiatives to encourage and support sportspersons and the sporting community even after they retire. Addressing the 10th Global Sports Summit, TURF 2020, organized by FICCI, Mr.Rijiju said, that we are also starting 1000 Khelo India small centres across the country that will help retired sports persons get employment or some role in shaping the sports culture of the country.
