Army Service Corps celebrates its raising day on December 8
Army Chief General MM Naravane and all ranks of Indian Army have extended their greetings to all ranks of the Army Service Corps on the occasion of its Raising Day on 8 December. On 8th December 1950, the word ‘Royal’ was dropped from the nomenclature of Army Service Corps and since then the day has been celebrated as its raising Day.
GADVASU, Ludhiana secured 1st rank amongst State Veterinary Universities
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has secured the first rank amongst State Veterinary Universities in India for the year 2019. GADVASU topped the ranking, conducted by the Education Division of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has also been accorded No.2 ranking amongst Agricultural Universities by ICAR for the year 2019.
Delegation from J&K participates in UAE-India Food Security Summit 2020
A delegation of farmers, growers, businessmen and government officials from the UT of J&K, with an aim to promote horticulture produce of the UT in the international market and tap the Gulf trade, is participating in the UAE-India Food Security Summit 2020. The Summit is being held from 7th to 10th of December. The event has been organised by the Consulate General of India in Dubai in association with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Invest India.
Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga preparing to embrace new norm of e-education
Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi is preparing to embrace the new norm of e-education and virtual learning in the post-Covid 19 scenario. A set of capacity building steps to enable the institute to design and run virtual courses and to substantially increase its internet presence were adopted in the recent meeting of the Standing Finance Committee of MDNIY.
Japan approves $700 billion stimulus package
Japan’s government approved more than $700 billion in fresh stimulus to fund projects from anti-coronavirus measures to green tech, the country’s third such package this financial year. Japan’s latest package, worth 73.6 trillion yen ($708 billion), includes loan schemes and actual government spending of around 40 trillion yen.
World Economic Forum to be held next year in Singapore
The World Economic Forum will hold its 2021 annual meeting in Singapore instead of its traditional home of Switzerland, which is battling a surge in coronavirus infections. The annual meeting will return to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland in 2022. Singapore was chosen because it has a relatively low rate of Covid-19 cases.
India and Qatar to create special Task-Force to further facilitate investments by QIA into India
India and Qatar today decided to create a special Task-Force to further facilitate investments by Qatar Investment Authority into India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking on telephone with Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar also resolved to explore Qatari investments in the entire energy value-chain in India.
HDFC Bank invests in smallcase Technologies
HDFC Bank has invested an undisclosed amount in s​mallcase Technologies, and bought a minority stake, as part of a recent Series B fund-raise of $14 million by the Bengaluru-based fintech startup. The five-year old startup operates in the capital markets infrastructure space and works with businesses to help individuals invest in simple and transparent products called smallcases.
Kotak Mahindra Bank introduces fitness allowance for employees
Kotak Mahindra Bank (Kotak) announced the introduction of a fitness allowance and remote working benefits for its employees. The allowances – new additions to Kotak’s ‘Health to the Power Infinity’ programme for employees – are effective from 1st December, 2020. Kotak Mahindra Bank has been conducting a range of activities to support the health and overall well-being of employees to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Invest India wins United Nations Investment Promotion Award for 2020
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has declared ‘Invest India’ as winner of the 2020 United Nations Investment Promotion Award. The award ceremony took place at UNCTAD Headquarters in Geneva. The Award recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements of the World’s best-practice investment promotion agencies. The evaluation was based on UNCTAD’s assessment of work undertaken by 180 national Investment Promotion Agencies across the world.
Coffee Day appoints Malavika Hegde as CEO
Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd has appointed Malavika Hegde, the wife of founder of Coffee Day Global Ltd and Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Co. Ltd, late V.G. Siddhartha, as the chief executive officer. Hegde was a non-executive director of the company, and is the younger daughter of S.M.Krishna, former central minister of external affairs and former Karnataka chief minister.
Anil Soni appointed as CEO for WHO Foundation
World Health Organisation has appointed Indian-origin Anil Soni as the Chief Executive Officer for the WHO Foundation. Global health expert Soni will assume his role as its inaugural CEO on January 1 next year. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described Soni as a proven innovator in global health who has spent two decades in service of communities affected by HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
Kiren Rijiju launches 2nd edition of Fit India Cyclothon
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has launched the second edition of Fit India Cyclothon via social media. The event will be held across the country in each district and citizens can participate by registering on Fit India website, cycle daily a distance of their choice, and share their images and videos on social media. They may tag @FitIndiaOff and use the hashtag – FitIndiaCyclothon and #NewIndiaFitIndia.
