Gujarat govt signs MoU with Denmark in water sector
Gujarat Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding -MoU with Denmark in the water sector. This will help in technology exchange, training, capacity building, knowledge exchange, cooperation in water supply, wastewater treatment- reuse and water management between the two organizations. MoU has been signed for a five-year period in order to set up Indo-Danish Water Technology Alliance in Gujarat and contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal -6.
Rajnath Singh launches Defence India Startup Challenge-4, releases PMA guidelines for iDEX
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the Defence India Startup Challenge (DISC 4) during the iDEX event, featuring the initiatives aimed at expanding the horizons of Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) ecosystem in New Delhi. Mr Singh also launched the iDEX4Fauji initiative and Product Management Approach (PMA) guidelines during the event. iDEX4Fauji is a first of its kind initiative, launched to support innovations identified by members of the Indian Armed Forces and will bolster frugal innovation ideas from soldiers and field formations.
UK GDP collapsed nearly 20% in second quarter in history
Britain suffered a record collapse in economic output in the second quarter of 2020 when COVID-19 lockdown measures were in full force, though the decline was slightly smaller than first estimated. Output has rebounded in recent months but the recovery looks to be fading with rising coronavirus cases and forecasts of a jump in unemployment as the govt scales back job support.
India and Bangladesh to set up monitoring committee to review project implementation
India and Bangladesh have agreed to set up a ‘High Level Monitoring Committee’ headed by the Secretary, Economic Relations Division of Bangladesh and High Commissioner of India in Bangladesh to regularly review the progress of implementation of projects being run with Line of Credit (Loc) provided by India.
Google partners online firms to bring SMBs online
Google India said it has partnered with third-party online platforms such as Instamojo, Zoho, Swiggy and Dunzo to help small and medium businesses (SMBs) build their digital presence as more and more consumers turn to online purchases amid the pandemic. Small businesses will be able to create business websites using software-as-a-service (SaaS) firm Zoho inventory platform and sell online through Zoho Commerce for free till 31 March.
BJP appoints Devendra Fadnavis as its in-charge for Bihar assembly polls
BJP has appointed former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis as its in-charge for the Bihar assembly elections. The announcement came on a day party president J P Nadda is holding talks with state BJP leaders here to discuss the three-phase polls to the 243-member state assembly, including seat-sharing arrangements with allies like the JD(U) and the LJP.
Airtel launches cyber security solutions for enterprises
Bharti Airtel Ltd launched a suite of cyber security solutions for large, medium and small businesses as they shift to digital and cloud platforms, increasing the need to protect data and information from online attacks. The suite, Airtel Secure, will have a security intelligence centre, a state-of-the-art infrastructure with access to advanced technology and artificial intelligence tools. The telco has invested about ₹100 crore in Airtel security intelligence centre located in the National Capital region (NCR).
India test fires BrahMos supersonic cruise missile
India successfully test fired the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos having a range of around 400 km. The BrahMos cruise missile travels at a speed of Mach 2.8, nearly three times that of sound. The test firing of the missile was carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) off the coast of Balasore in Odisha.
Amazon unveils new biometric payment system
Amazon unveiled a new biometric payment system using palm recognition, to be made available to rival retailers and also promoted as a replacement for badge entry at stadiums or workplaces. The system called Amazon One was touted as ‘a fast, convenient, contactless way for people to use their palm to make everyday activities like paying at a store’. Amazon One uses each individual’s ‘unique palm signature,’ an alternative to other biometric identifiers.
World’s first HIV survivor dies after cancer returns
Timothy Ray Brown, the first person known to be cured of HIV when he had a unique type of bone marrow transplant, has died in California after relapsing with cancer. Timothy Brown, born on March 11, 1966, became known as the ‘Berlin Patient’ after his HIV was cleared by treatment there in 2007.
