Goa’s Liberation Day is observed on December 19
On 19 December 1961, the Indian Army invaded Goa with Operation Vijay. After 36 hours of the operation, Portuguese Governor General Vassalo da Silva surrendered and hence Goa was organised as a centrally administered union territory of India which later became a state.

I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar announces the selection films in Indian Panorama for the 51st IFFI
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar today announced the selection of 23 Feature and 20 non-feature films in Indian Panorama for the 51st International Film Festival of India, IFFI to be held in Goa in January next year. In the Feature films section, 23 films are selected that include Kripal Kalita directed Assamese movie Bridge, Hindi Films Saand Ki Aankh and Chichhore, Govid Nihlani’s English movie Up Up & Up, Nila Madhab Panda’s Odia movie Kalira Atita, Marathi Movie Prawaas, Sanskrit Movie Namo and Malayalam Movie safe directed by Praddep Kailipurayath.

India International Science Festival (IISF) 2020 to be organized from 22 December
India International Science Festival (IISF) 2020 is going to be organized from 22 December on virtual platforms. This will be the largest science festival to be held on virtual platform. The central theme of this year’s festival is “Science for Self-reliant India and Global Welfare”. The festival begins on 22nd December, the birthday of Srinivas Ramanujam, the world renowned Indian mathematician and culminates on 25th December, the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was a firm believer of development through Science & Technology.

Skill India establishes first Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in Power Sector
Skill India has established first Centre of Excellence for Skill Development in Power Sector in the campus of National Institute of Solar Energy, Gurugram Haryana. Inaugurating the Centre, Minister of State for Skill Development Raj Kumar Singh said that India is taking rapid strides to move towards renewable energy to accelerate economic development, improve energy security and energy access while mitigating climate change challenges too.

Biden names Indian-American Vedant Patel as Assistant WH Press Secretary
US President-elect Joe Biden has named Indian-American Vedant Patel to be the Assistant Press Secretary as he announced the additional members of the White House Communications and Press Staff. Patel is currently the senior spokesperson of the Biden inaugural committee.

Australia dismiss India for 36 – their lowest ever Test score
The Indian cricket team on Saturday scored its lowest ever lowest ever total in Test cricket, collapsing to 36/9 in the terminated second innings against Australia on the third morning of the first Day/Night Test here. India’s earlier lowest score was 42 at the Lord’s in 1974 against England, known in Indian cricket parlance as ‘Summer of 42’.

All India Football Federation (AIFF) has formally announced its candidature to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027 and deliver a brighter future together for football in India and across Asia. The India 2027 campaign’s powerful logo, revealed at the launch, represents the ambition, commitment, focus and spirit of the bid, epitomized by the royal tiger. The tiger is also an emblem of India’s national team, the Blue Tigers.
