Minorities Rights Day in India is observed on December 18
18th December in India is known as Minorities Rights Day. The day focuses on promoting and preserving the rights of minorities in terms of linguistic, religious, and caste freedom and also ensures the safety of minorities. Several events and campaigns are conducted to educate people about this special day. The day is exceptionally one of the important days in December 2020.

International Migrants Day is celebrated on 18 December to raise awareness about the protection for migrants and refugees.

Nagaland government totally banned use of flex banners, boards and posters
Nagaland Government has totally banned the use of flex banners, boards and posters by departments, institutions and agencies during functions or programmes in government offices with immediate effect. The notification further stated that use of eco-friendly materials such as cloth banners, lightweight textile fabrics, wrinkle resistant wrap knit and particle boards may be encouraged to combat plastic pollution in the State.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

India, ADB sign 4.21 million dollar PRF facility for preparation of infrastructure development projects
The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) today signed a 4.21 million dollar project readiness financing (PRF) facility for the preparation of infrastructure development projects to improve urban amenities and develop tourism infrastructure in Tripura. This is ADB’s first PRF facility for a state in the northeastern region of India.

Cabinet approves assistance of Rs 3,500 crore for sugarcane farmers
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved assistance of three thousand 500 crore rupees for sugarcane farmers. Briefing the media in New Delhi after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, Cabinet has taken the decision to help farmers directly by depositing money of subsidy into their accounts. It will benefit five crore farmers and five lakh workers.

Webinar and expo between India and Maldives held
A webinar and expo between India and Maldives was held. The theme of the webinar was ‘Joint Indo Maldives High Level Defence Engagement’. It was organised under the aegis of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence through Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. This webinar is the part of Aero India 21 series of webinars which is being organised to boost defence cooperation and engagements with friendly foreign countries.

WHO team expected to visit China in January 2021 to probe COVID-19 origins
The much-awaited international mission led by the World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to go to China in the first week of January to investigate the origins of the novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that triggered the COVID-19 pandemic.

India and Bangladesh sign 7 MoUs, agreements
India and Bangladesh signed seven MoUs and agreements during the virtual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The agreements include a framework of understanding in Hydrocarbon sector, framework agreement on High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), protocol on transborder elephant conservation, an MoU on the supply of equipment and improvement of Garbage and solid waste disposal, MoU in the field of agriculture, an MoU between National Museum Delhi and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial museum, Dhaka and terms of reference for India Bangladesh CEO forum.

RBI extends centralised KYC norms to legal entities
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) extended the applicability of centralised KYC registry to legal entities, from individual accounts at present, effective 1 April 2021. Banks and non-banks and other entities regulated by RBI have been uploading the KYC data pertaining to all individual accounts on to centralised KYC registry. KYC procedures enable banks to understand their customers and their financial dealings better which in turn help them manage their risks prudently.

MobiKwik appointed PayPal India’s Siddharth Dhamija as CEO of Zaakpay
MobiKwik has appointed Siddharth Dhamija as chief executive officer (CEO) of Zaakpay, its payment gateway arm. Dhamija brings 23 years of experience to the company. He was part of the founding team that launched PayPal’s domestic payments business. He also led the Enterprise Business at PayPal India. During his tenure in PayPal, the platform managed partnerships with global merchants present in India. Prior to PayPal, he was a part of the founding team at Razorpay as its chief growth officer. He has also worked with companies like Subex.

New Indian social networking app set to launch in 100 countries
Forpose Pvt. Ltd., an SaaS (Software as a Service) developer, based out of Hyderabad, announced the launch of a social networking app named Forpose. A beta version of the application had gone live in August this year. The company is ready to launch the application for users across 100 countries from the start of 2021. The company claims that as a social networking platform, the app will not just connect people, but create new business opportunities for the fashion sector.
