Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda celebrated as National Youth Day on January 12
The Nation is celebrated the birth anniversary of youth Icon Swami Vivekananda on January 12. One of the greatest spiritual leaders of India, Swami Vivekananda introduced the world to the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga. He became popular in the western world after his famous speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions held in Chicago in 1893. The theme of this year’s National Youth Day is ‘YUVAAH – Utsah Naye Bharat Ka’.

First ever Ice climbing festival celebrated in Nubra valley (Leh)
In Leh, the first ever Ice climbing festival was celebrated in Nubra valley. The Seven Day event was organized by Nubra Adventure Club. Ice climbing is a popular winter sport abroad. 18 participants across Nubra valley including 4 women, have taken part in Ice climbing. All were trained in basic ice climbing skills during the festival at three locations, Podong Cake at Panamik, Artificial Glacier at Ayee Village and first ascent at ” Nubra Adventure Club Crag” located near Warshi Village. Three trainers Rigzin tsewang, Tsewang Namgyal and Kran Kowshik imparted ice climbing skills. Participants were awarded certificates as well.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

SC Stays Implementation of 3 Farm Laws; Forms 4 Member Committee
The Supreme Court stayed implementation of the three farm laws till further order while forming a four-member committee of agriculturist and agri-economists to hear farmers’ grievances against these Acts. A bench headed by chief justice Sharad A Bobde says, “We are going to suspend the implementation of the three farm laws until further orders.”
Supreme Court court asked the 4-member expert committee formed on the three new farm laws to submit their recommendations within two months of their first sitting. Members of the committee include Bhupinder Singh Maan (President of BKU), Dr Pramod Kumar Joshi (International Policy Head), Ashok Gulati (Agricultural Economist) and Anil Dhanvat, (Shivkeri Sangathna, Maharashtra).

Bharat Biotech inks pact with Precisa Med to supply Covaxin to Brazil
Bharat Biotech has signed an agreement with Precisa Medicamentos for the supply of its indigenously manufactured Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covaxin’ to Brazil. The supplies of Covaxin will be prioritized for public market, through direct procurement by Brazil government. The supplies of Covaxin to private market would be based upon receipt of market authorization from Brazilian regulatory authority ANVISA.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

‘America United’ to be Joe Biden’s inaugural theme
The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced that the theme for Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20 would be ‘America United’. ‘This inauguration marks a new chapter for the American people,’ said PIC CEO Dr Tony Allen. The PIC further said that Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration will showcase the American people’s resilience, heroism, and unified commitment to coming together.

India, Bangladesh police to enhance work against terrorist activities
The police forces of India and Bangladesh will enhance their work against terrorist entities including the Global Terrorist Groups as well as other fugitives wherever they are present and active. The decision was taken during the delegation level dialogues between the police chiefs of India and Bangladesh held virtually. The two sides discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation and decided to further strengthen the relationship of the police forces between the two countries.

RBI imposes ₹2 crore fine on Deutsche Bank for non-compliance of various norms
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of ₹2 crore on Deutsche Bank for non-compliance with certain provisions of directions issued by RBI (Interest Rate on Deposits) Directions, 2016. Penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the central bank said in a release

CBDT launches e-portal for filing complaints on tax evasion, benami properties
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has launched an automated dedicated e-portal on the e-filing website of the Department to receive and process complaints of tax evasion, foreign undisclosed assets as well as complaints regarding benami properties. The public can now file a Tax Evasion Petition through a link on the e-filing website of the I-T Dept.

BUSINESS & ECONOMY

Tech Mahindra to acquire Payments Technology Services for about ₹66 crore
IT services major Tech Mahindra will acquire Payments Technology Services Ltd (PTSL), a step-down subsidiary of fintech firm FIS, for $9 million (about ₹66 crore). The acquisition will give Tech Mahindra access to IPs and licenses for two products – Open Payment Framework (OPF) and Multi-Bank System (MBS).

Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan felicitates Kayakalp awards. Public and Private Health Facilities were felicitated with Kayakalp award for high standards of Sanitation and Hygiene. The government had launched a National Initiative ‘Kayakalp’ on 15th May 2015 to ensure hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness in Public Health Facilities in India.
