International Friendship Day
International Friendship Day is celebrated on 30 July to mark the importance of friends and friendship in life. The day also advocates the role that friendship plays in promoting peace in several cultures across the world. The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

MP govt to conduct Sero Surveillance study in Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain
Madhya Pradesh state government has decided to conduct a Sero Surveillance study in three major cities i.e. Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain to control the rising cases of Corona infection and to understand the infection rate. This survey will be conducted under the supervision of All India Institute of Medical Sciences-AIIMS, Bhopal.

Punjab govt to be provide Plasma at free of cost
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that plasma will be provided free of cost by the state government to all the Covid-19 patients who need it. Govt medical colleges will also provide plasma free to other hospitals for treatment of Covid-19.

First UDAN-RCS service launched in Uttarakhand
A helicopter service on the Dehradun-New Tehri-Srinagar-Gauchar route in Uttarakhand under UDAN has been inaugurated. Chief Minister Rawat informed that these helicopter services will be available for three days a week. UDAN- RCS (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik- Regional Connectivity Scheme), is a regional airport development scheme of the Central government.

Delhi government launches drive to prepare people to deal with earthquakes
After a series of minor earthquakes hit the national capital in the last few months, the Delhi government has launched an awareness campaign on how to react during earthquakes. The campaign informs people on the steps to be taken by Delhiities to deal with such a situation. The campaign of the Delhi government will also help people be well-prepared and take measures to minimize the damage and effects of earthquakes.

Indian Red Cross Society to buy 1.80 lakh face masks from KVIC
Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has received a purchase order from Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to supply 1 lakh 80 thousand face masks. KVIC has said, the masks for Red Cross will be made of 100 per cent double-twisted handcrafted cotton fabric in brown colour with red piping. KVIC has specially designed these double-layered cotton masks for the Indian Red Cross Society as per the designs provided by them. The supply of masks will begin by next month.

Nirmala Sitharaman attends 5th Annual Meeting of Board of Governors of AIIB
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the 5th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) through video conference in New Delhi. The discussions at the meeting broadly covered official business including election of the President of the AIIB and a roundtable discussion on the theme ‘AIIB 2030-Supporting Asia’s Development over the Next Decade’. Finance Minister mentioned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative of creating a COVID-19 Emergency Fund for SAARC Nations. She also highlighted India’s efforts in supplying critical medical health kits to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic and nation’s support towards the global efforts of COVID-19 vaccine trials.

Piyush Goyal inaugurates CII National Digital conference on Ease of Doing Business for Atmanirbhar Bharat. He said that the government is aiming to cover the nation’s length and breadth in optic fibres within the next two years. Mr Goyal said digital is the way forward. He said that he is dedicated to policy simplification and asked for industry’s feedback in areas where policy stability is possible.

Govt imposes safeguard duty on solar cells for one more year till July 2021
The government has imposed safeguard duty on solar cells for one more year till July 2021 to protect domestic manufacturers and discourage cheap imports from countries like China. After considering the findings of the DGTR, the department of revenue in a notification has said that it is imposing ‘a safeguard duty’ on the product.

Prime Minister Modi inaugrated the new Supreme Court building of Mauritius with his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth. The inauguration took place through video conference in the presence of senior members of Judiciary from Mauritius and other dignitaries from both the countries.

Cabinet approves MoU signed between India & Zimbabwe on Traditional Systems of Medicine
Union Cabinet gave ex-post facto approval to Memorandum of Understanding signed between India and Zimbabwe on Cooperation in the field of Traditional Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy. The MoU will provide a frame work for the cooperation between the two countries for the promotion of traditional systems of medicine and homeopathy and will mutually benefit the two countries in the field of Traditional Medicine. The main objective of the MoU is to strengthen, promote and develop co-operation in the field of traditional systems of medicine between the two countries on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.

High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das hands over two School buses in Dhaka
High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das handed over two school buses to Nalanda Uccho Bidyalaya in a virtual ceremony held in Dhaka. Nalanda Uccho Bidyalaya is a school run by Chhayanaut which is one of the most prominent cultural organisations of Bangladesh devoted to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Bangladesh.

Asian Development Bank approves three million US dollar grant to India
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a three million US dollar grant to India from its Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF). This grant will further support the government’s emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This support will enhance disease surveillance and help in early detection, contact tracing, and treatment.

FY19 ITR deadline extended
The income tax department again extended the last date for filing the belated tax return for the financial year 2018-19 (assessment year 2019-20) by two more months till September 30. This is the third extension since 31 March, which was the original deadline for filing the belated return for FY18-19. In the wake of the covid-19 crisis, the deadline was initially revised till 30 June and later to 31 July. Return filed after the due date is called a belated return.

SIDBI, TransUnion CIBIL launch knowledge platform for MSMEs
Small Industries Development Bank of India in association with TransUnion CIBIL has launched a comprehensive financial education and knowledge platform for micro, small and medium enterprises. PFC signs agreement with IIT-Kanpur for research, training in smart grid technology
Power Finance Corporation, PFC, a PSU under Ministry of Power has signed an agreement with Indian Institute of Technology- Kanpur for Training, Research, and Entrepreneurship Development in Smart Grid Technology. Under the agreement, PFC will provide financial assistance of worthw two crore thirty eight lakhs and ninety seven thousand rupees to IIT-Kanpur.

NASA set to launch robotic rover to seek signs of past Martian life
NASA is set to launch an ambitious mission to Mars with the liftoff of its next-generation Perseverance rover, a six-wheeled robot tasked with deploying a mini helicopter, testing out equipment for future human missions and searching for traces of past Martian life. Launching atop an Atlas 5 rocket from the Boeing-Lockheed joint venture United Launch Alliance, the car-sized Perseverance rover is expected to reach Mars next February. The rover will attempt for the first time to bring Martian rock samples back to Earth, collecting materials in cigar-sized capsules.

OBITUARY

Folk musician Sonam Tshering Lepcha passed away
Padma Shri Ren Sonam Tshering Lepcha made outstanding efforts to popularise the great Lepcha culture. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award of the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1995. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2007, for contributions to folk music. He passed away at the age of 92 years. He was first among Lepcha people to air his voice on All India Radio and is credited with the revival of Lepcha culture, one of the indigenous cultures of the Indian state of Sikkim.
