Hiroshima Day is observed on 6 August
Hiroshima Day is observed on 6 August every year. On this day, 75 years ago, a US warplane dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima and destroyed the city and killed 350,000 living there. Three days later, on August 9, a second nuclear bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.

HAL donates two ambulances to Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College & Research Institute in Bengaluru
To meet the ever growing demand for ambulances during the COVID -19 pandemic, the public sector undertaking HAL( Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) has donated two ambulances to Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College & Research Institute in Bengaluru under its Corporate Social Responsibility program.

HP government to start a program in lines with Mann ki Baat
Considering the importance of technology and to increase public participation in governance the Himachal Government has decided to start a program in lines with Mann ki Baat for the people of the state. The program would be broadcast once in every month through social media, radio, and television. It will be organized along the lines of “Mann Ki Baat”. People of the state can share their suggestions regarding the events, inspirational works, and schemes of the Himachal government. Through this interface, the common citizen of the state can also convey their personal views to the Chief Minister as well. The state government has asked suggestions from the people, for this Digital program.

Teleconsultation service eSanjeevani gets tremendous response in Tamil Nadu
In Tamil Nadu, the national health teleconsultation service called eSanjeevani has got a tremendous response from the public. So far, over 25-thousand people have consulted doctors through video-call.

India plans to set up Japanese industrial township in Assam
India is planning to set up the 13th Japanese industrial township in Assam, a move aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing and strengthening economic ties between the two countries. DPIIT said they are working on a Geographic Information System-enabled data base of industrial areas and clusters across the country. Fast track system is being worked out with the objective to identify and solve problems faced by Japanese companies and investors.

Maharashtra govt to supply milk powder to children, lactating mothers
The Maharashtra Government has decided to supply milk powder manufactured from additional milk stock to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under the Amrut Aahar scheme. The Amrut Aahar scheme will be implemented for a year at the cost of ₹121 crore, while the manufacturing cost of the milk powder is over ₹246 per kg. Milk powder will be packaged and provided to 6.51 lakh children and 1.21 lakh pregnant women and lactating mothers.

Centre releases over 890 crore rupees as second installment of emergency COVID-19 package to 22 States/UTs
Centre has released over 890 crore rupees as the second installment of the COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Package to 22 States and Union Territories. These States and UTs are Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim. The amount of the financial assistance is based on the COVID-19 case load in these States and UTs. Union Health Ministry said the financial aid will be used for strengthening of public health facilities infrastructure for testing including procurement and installation of RT-PCR machines and RNA extraction kits.

India looks forward to further increasing its cooperation and working together with Japan to meet the global requirements of the future. Addressing the Digital Edition of Make in India, Japan Roadshow 3.0 today, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the whole world is looking at a balanced and equitable trade and India would like to work with Japan to balance the Indo-Japan trade.

First Kisan Special parcel train to run from Maharashtra to Bihar
Indian Railways will flag off its first ‘Kisan Special’ parcel train from Devlali in Maharashtra to Bihar’s Danapur. The train will transport perishable agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits to the market in a time-bound manner. It will have frozen containers for perishables, including fish, meat and milk.

Australia to spend $1.2 billion on cyber security for private sector
Australia will spend A$1.66 billion ($1.19 billion) over the next 10 years to strengthen the cyber defences of companies and households after a rise in cyber attacks. Australia has decided to spend vehemently on cyber security of private firms pertaining to rise in cyber attacks in recent past related to its defense strategy. Cyber attacks on businesses and households are costing about A$29 billion which is 1.5% of Australia’s GDP.

India extends Line of Credit worth 18 million dollars to Maldives
India has extended Line of Credit worth 18 million US dollars to the Government of Maldives for the expansion of fishing facilities at Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). The project envisages investment in fish collection and storage facilities and the setting up of a tuna cooked plant and fishmeal plant. It is part of the 800 million US dollars line of credit offered by India with repayment tenor of 20 years and a 5-year moratorium.

TikTok to open 1st European data centre in Ireland
Chinese-owned video app TikTok, facing the threat of a US ban, will set up its first European data centre in Ireland, extending its presence in the country where it already has a hub dealing with regional regulatory issues. The move comes days after parent company ByteDance said it was considering moving TikTok’s headquarters overseas, following a British media report that the unit could relocate to London. TikTok’s new data center is expected to be operational by early 2022. TikTok will spend $500 million on first EU data center.

RBI to allow offline payments through cards on pilot basis
The RBI announced a scheme on pilot basis for offline retail payments using cards and mobile devices to encourage customers to go for digital transactions even in those places that lack internet connectivity.

RBI to set up ‘Innovation Hub’ to promote financial inclusion, efficient banking
The Reserve Bank will set up an ‘Innovation Hub’ in the country for ideation and incubation of new capabilities which can be leveraged to deepen financial inclusion and promote efficient banking services. The Innovation Hub will support, promote and hand-hold cross-thinking spanning regulatory remits and national boundaries.

RBI announces special liquidity facility of ₹10,000 cr for Nabard, NHB
The Reserve Bank announced an additional special liquidity facility (ASLF) of ₹10,000 crore equally split between Nabard and the NHB to help small financiers and home loan companies amid COVID-19 difficulties. The liquidity facility to both the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) and the National Housing Bank (NHB) will be offered at the policy repo rate.

RBI enhances security features for cheques above ₹50,000
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plans to introduce a mechanism called ‘Positive Pay’ in order to enhance safety features of cheques of value ₹50,000 and above. Under the mechanism all cheques will be processed for payment by the drawee bank based on information passed on by its customer at the time of issuance of cheque.

SpiceJet gives option to book two seats or an entire row for single passenger
Budget carrier Spicejet has announced Spicejet Extra Seats, allowing passenger to book two seats or even a full row to make their air travel safer and more comfortable. SpiceJet Extra Seats is available across the airline’s domestic network and passengers opting for it will be automatically entitled to a host of complimentary services such as priority check-in, preferred boarding and bag out service.

Nippon Life India AMC launches Multi Asset Fund
Nippon Life India AMC (formerly known as Reliance Nippon Life AMC), has launched Nippon India Multi Asset Fund (NIMAF). It is an open-ended scheme which will invest 50% of its assets in Indian equities, 20% in international equities, 15% in commodities and the remaining in Debt & Money Market Instruments.

DIAT bags 1st prize in Smart India Hackathon 2020
Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, DIAT, has bagged 1st prize in Smart India Hackathon, SIH, 2020, held from 1st to 3rd of this month at Noida Institute of Engineering and Technology, Uttar Pradesh. This 36- hour non-stop digital product building competition was a national level competition for software edition, which was organized jointly by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and All India Council for Technical Education. During the competition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the participants in a live event.

Manoj Sinha appointed as new Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir
The President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Manoj Sinha as the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The President accepted the resignation of Girish Chandra Murmu as Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Murmu, a 1985 batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer was appointed as the LG in October last year. Our correspondent quoting sources reports, Mr Murmu had sent his resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind.

Paytm appoints Bhavesh Gupta as CEO of lending business
One97 Communications Ltd, which operates Paytm, has appointed Bhavesh Gupta as chief executive officer (CEO) of its lending business. In his new role, Bhavesh will develop and expand Paytm’s lending services and help the company create new credit products for customers and SMEs in partnerships with other banks and NBFCs. Gupta will be reporting to Amit Nayyar, President at Paytm.

Google to stop automatic recording of Assistant conversations
Google will stop automatic recording of interactions a user has with Google Assistant, the company announced in an email sent to users. Google had come under investigation in Germany last year for possibly violating the General Data Protection Regulations, specifically because of the human review process.

Facebook launches a new TikTok clone, Instagram Reels
Facebook’s Instagram is launching its answer to the hit short video app TikTok — Instagram Reels. Instagram Reels will let users record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, and will let users add visual effects. Users will be able to share Reels with followers in Instagram in a dedicated section called Reels in.

Senior Congressman and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Shivajirao Patil Nilangekar passed away at a private hospital in Pune following a brief illness. He was 88.
