National Statistics Day
Every year, the Statistics Day is celebrated on 29th June, the birth anniversary of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, to recognise his invaluable contribution in establishing the National Statistical System. The main aim of this day is to popularise the use of statistics in everyday life and sensitise the public as to how statistics help in shaping and framing policies and to raise public awareness, especially among the younger generation, about the role of statistics in socio-economic planning.
Arunachal Pradesh to provide 100 percent tap connections in the State by 2023 March
Arunachal Pradesh state government is to implement Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the State. The mission aims to improve the lives of rural people by providing safe drinking water to every rural household through household tap connections. Arunachal Pradesh aims to provide 100% Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to all the households of the State by March 2023.
DPIIT ordered the scrapping of a Rs 1,950 crore tender for the BharatNet project in Tamil Nadu
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) ordered the scrapping of a Rs 1,950 crore tender for the BharatNet project in Tamil Nadu. BharatNet is a flagship mission implemented by Bharat Broadband Network Ltd. (BBNL). It is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) set up by the Government of India under the Companies Act, 1956 with an authorized capital of Rs 1000 crore. Initially, it was under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which was bifurcated into the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in July 2016. Currently, it is being implemented by the Department of Telecommunication under the Ministry of Communications.
Arjun Munda launched Tribes India products on GEM and new website of TRIFED
The Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Arjun Munda launched the Trifed Digital Platforms, through Video Conference. He launched the TRIBES India products on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) with a diverse range on display and TRIFED’s new website, https://trifed.tribal.gov.in. The launch comes due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the country.
Liquidity Measures Extended for Banks
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has extended the relaxation relating to Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) scheme till 30th September 2020. It has also extended the relaxation relating to maintenance of Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) up to 25th September 2020. This was done in view of the hardships being faced by banks in terms of social distancing at work and consequent strain on reporting requirements.
India Bhutan signs agreement for joint venture hydroelectric project
India and Bhutan signed the first Indo-Bhutan joint venture hydroelectric project on 29 June 2020. The agreement will pave the way for the commencement of its construction and other related works. The agreement was signed by the Bhutanese government and the Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited in the virtual presence of the Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar and his Bhutanese counterpart Tandi Dorji.
World Bank approved USD 500 million loan to improve quality of school education
The World Bank has approved a $500 million loan to improve the quality and governance of school education in six Indian states. The approval is given by the Board of Executive Directors. The board approved a loan for Strengthening the Teaching-Learning and Results for States Program (STARS). It is expected that around 250 million students, between the age of 6 and 17, in 1.5 million schools, and over 10 million teachers will benefit from the program.
Indian Garment Company bagged NRDC license for manufacturing NavRakshak PPEs
The National Research Development Cooperation (NRDC) has signed a technology licensing agreement with an Agra-based apparel manufacturing entity, the Indian Garment Company. The agreement aims to manufacture know-how of a Personal protective equipment (PPE) Suit named NavRakshak. NavRakshak PPE was principally developed by Dr. Arnab Ghosh, a Naval Doctor. The PPEs were made considering the comfort and protection of the doctors.
