International Tigers day is observed on July 29
International Tiger Day is celebrated on 29th of July every year across the globe to create awareness about tiger conservation. Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar saluted the front line forest personnel whose efforts he said have taken the tiger on the assured path of recovery in the country. In his message on Global Tiger Day today, the minister said that tiger conservation is a classic example of Atma Nirbharta as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Karnataka CM Yediyurappa laid foundation stone for Bengaluru Life sciences Park
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa laid the foundation stone for the much-awaited Bengaluru Life sciences Park at Electronics City. Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said, the proposed park spread over nine million square feet on 52.27 acres will be built at a cost of 5000 crore rupees. Set up on a public private partnership model, the first phase of the project is slated to be completed by December 2022.

Delhi govt to redesign roads to make them more ‘European’-looking
Delhi roads are gearing up for a makeover and this time the goals seems to be reaching the European standards. The Delhi government has announced, via an official statement, that they will redesign 500 kms of 100-foot-wide roads in the national capital on the lines of those in European cities.

QR code e-passes mandatory in Mumbai local trains
Maharashtra government had issued an order making a QR code-based pass mandatory for all essential service passengers in order to be able to travel by local trains in Mumbai from July 30. An electronic QR based e-pass along with a valid railway ticket is mandatory to travel in the local suburban services from July 30. This ensures nobody barring from essential services travels in local trains. Under the new QR code-based e-pass system, identity cards with QR codes will be provided to each government employee.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh asks sweet shop owners to give free masks to customers
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh advised owners of sweet shops in the state to give free masks to customers on Raksha Bandhan. The appeal comes four days after Amarinder Singh had announced that sweet shops will be allowed to remain open on August 2, a day before the Raksha Bandhan festival, despite the lockdown in place on Sunday in the state.

HRD Minister launches India Report on Digital Education, 2020
Human Resources and Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched India Report on Digital Education, 2020. The report elaborates on the innovative methods adopted by Ministry of HRD, Education Departments of States and Union Territories for ensuring accessible and inclusive education to children at home and reducing learning gaps. School Education is envisaged as a comprehensive and convergent programme committed to universalize digital education across the wide spectrum of schools from pre-nursery to higher secondary classes.

HRD Ministry renamed as Ministry of Education
Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as Ministry of Education. The Union Cabinet has approved the change in the name of the ministry. The HRD Ministry is currently headed by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

India gets a new education policy after 34 years
The Union Cabinet approved the new National Education Policy (NEP) that is expected to set the roadmap for the sector keeping in mind present employment scenario. This policy comes after almost three decades, and post deliberation of almost six years. This is the third NEP after policies that came in 1968, and 1986. Though the government amended the 1986 policy in 1992, it was largely the same. The new NEP is expected to change the name of the HRD ministry to education ministry, promote multi-disciplinary education, is likely to bring foreign education players to India to operate independently and lay down rules for a higher education spending by the government.

Primary education in mother tongue should be made compulsory
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu called for protecting and promoting various Indian languages through the use of mother tongue in different fields from education to administration. Inaugurating a webinar Mr. Naidu stressed the need for giving a special thrust to the respective official language by every State Government. Observing that language was the lifeline of a civilization, he said it denotes the identity, culture and traditions of the people. Mr Naidu said language plays an important role in preserving music, dance, customs, festivals, traditional knowledge and heritage.

Indian Railway carries mini trucks to Bangladesh for first time
Indian railways has for the first time carried automobile traffic to Bangladesh. The first consignment of 51 TATA Ace Vehicles arrived at Benapole in Bangladesh on Friday. Confirming the arrival, Railway Advisor to the High Commision of India Anita Barik told our Dhaka Correspondent that the trucks arrived in Bangladesh loaded on 15 parcel vans. It covered a distance of more than 1400 kilometres from India.

Annual 5-day Haj pilgrimage commenced in Saudi Arabia
The annual five day Haj pilgrimage commences today in Saudi Arabia on a drastically reduced scale due to coronavirus pandemic globally. Only about 1,000 Muslims begins their journey from holy city of Mecca to assemble in Mina. 30% of them will be Saudi citizens while the remaining seventy per cent will be foreign nationals who live in Saudi Arabia.

US puts its fastest supercomputer to work in fight against coronavirus
The fastest supercomputer in the U.S. is being put to work in the search for a vaccine to prevent the coronavirus and treat those infected by it. The Summit, housed in the US Energy Department’s Oak Ridge National Lab in Tennessee, is capable of 200,000 trillion calculations per second. It is being used to analyze health data as part of the Covid-19 Insights Partnership.

Sundaram Mutual launches ‘Any Day SIP’ in schemes
Sundaram Mutual has introduced ‘Any Day SIP’ feature in all open-ended schemes of the fund house, except in liquid schemes. This is effective July 29. As the name suggests, the feature allows an investor to schedule their SIPs on any day of the month. Similarly, quarterly SIPs can be scheduled for any day of the quarter beginning January, April, July, and October.

Uber, Bajaj partner to install safety partitions in autos amid covid-19 spike
Ride-hailing company Uber and auto major Bajaj announced that they are partnering to install safety partitions just behind the driver seat in one lakh autos for restricting contact and to facilitate social distancing between drivers and riders. Safety kits consisting of face masks, hand sanitisers and vehicle disinfectants will also be distributed to one lakh autorickshaw drivers across 20 cities. The move aims to facilitate social distancing between drivers and riders.

Tech Mahindra, Hinduja Group’s CyQureX sign global pact for cyber security
IT company Tech Mahindra and Hinduja Group’s CyQureX on Wednesday announced a global partnership to jointly offer cyber security solutions. Under the partnership, Tech Mahindra will provide consulting, planning, designing, integration, orchestration and automation of services and CyQureX will prioritise capabilities in the cyber security domain.

Earth Sciences Ministry announces National Awards for excellence in Earth System Science
Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) National Awards for excellence in Earth System Science have been announced. This year the Life Time Excellence Award is being awarded to Professor Ashok Sahni for his significant contribution in the field of Geology, Vertebrate Paleontology and Biostratigraphy. The National Award for Ocean Science and technology is being awarded to Dr. V. V. S. S. Sarma, Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Vishakapatnam and Dr. M. Ravichandran, Director, National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Goa. The National Award for Atmospheric Science and technology will be presented to Dr. S. Suresh Babu.

PFC ties up with IIT-Kanpur for research, training in smart grid technology
State-owned Power Finance Corporation (PFC) said it has signed an agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology- Kanpur for training, research, and entrepreneurship development in smart grid technology. As per the memorandum of association, the PFC will provide financial assistance of ₹2.38 crore to IIT-K under its CSR initiative.

Hetero launches covid-19 drug under brand Favivir at ₹59 per tablet
Hetero Healthcare Ltd launched the generic covid-19 drug favipiravir in India under the brand name Favivir at ₹59 per pill. The product is cheaper than those of earlier entrants Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Cipla Ltd. Favipiravir is used in the treatment of mild-to-moderate covid-19, and constitutes 122 pills for over a period of two weeks. With that dosage, Hetero’s Favivir will cost ₹7,198 for the entire course.

First five Rafale jets land at Ambala air force station
In historic moments for the Indian Air Force, the first batch of five Rafale fighter aircraft has now landed on Ambala air base. Rafales are escorted by two Sukhoi 30 MKIs after they entered the Indian air space. Water salute has been given to the five Rafale fighter aircraft after their landing at Ambala airbase in Haryana. These fighter aircraft are flown by pilots of the 17 Golden Arrows led by Commanding Officer Group Captain Harkirat Singh along with other pilots, Wing Commanders MK Singh, R Kataria, Sidhu and Arun.

Mohun Bagan gets featured on NASDAQ billboards
One of the most iconic football clubs, Mohun Bagan got featured on the NASDAQ billboards in New York’s Times Square. Mohun Bagan was paid tribute by American stock exchange NASDAQ on the occasion of Mohun Bagan Day 2020. Mohun Bagan Day has been celebrated since 2001 on July 29 to commemorate the club’s historic victory over East Yorkshire Regiment in the IFA Shield Final on this day in 1911. To mark the occasion, Mohun Bagan Ratna is also presented each year to outstanding former players. The first recipient was former captain Sailen Manna.
