DRDO to set up two temporary hospitals of 500 bed to treat Corona patients in Bihar
Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) will set up two temporary hospitals of five hundred bed to treat Corona patients in Bihar. DRDO has taken this decision in view of increasing positive cases in the state. These hospitals will be set up at Patna and Muzaffarpur with latest medical equipments. There will be 150 ventilators in each hospital.

Tamil Nadu launches free mask plan for ration card holders
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami launched a free mask distribution scheme to benefit over 69 lakh families in the first phase, as part of measures to help fight COVID-19. The initial phase envisages distribution of 4.44 crore reusable masks -bought at a cost of ₹30.07 crore- to 69.09 lakh families in town panchayats, municipalities and corporations barring the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Plasma donors to get preference for govt jobs in Assam
Assam says that symptomatic patients who donate plasma four weeks after recovery will get preference in government jobs and housing. For example, a donor may get extra marks if he or she is tied in any test or interview for a job.

Animal sacrifice prohibited in public in Ahmedabad, Surat
Days ahead of Bakri Eid, police commissioners of Ahmedabad and Surat in Gujarat have issued orders prohibiting animal sacrifice in public places and at private places where it would be visible to the public. The notifications also put a ban on decorating animals and taking out their procession ahead of the ritual of sacrifice.

Indian Railways constructing world’s first electrified tunnel to run double-stack containers
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) has recently conducted a tunnel-breaking ceremony on the completion of caving work for the one-kilometre long tunnel of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) through Aravalli mountain range, near Sohna in Haryana. The tunnel connects Mewat & Gurugram district of Haryana and negotiates a steep gradient on the uphill and downhill slope of the Aravalli range.

Govt launched four schemes for setting up of Bulk Drugs & Medical Devices Parks
Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Sadananda Gowda today launched four schemes of Department of Pharmaceuticals for promotion of domestic manufacturing of bulk drugs and medical devices parks in the country. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gowda said that this in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his clarion call for making India Atmanirbhar in pharma sector. For this, the government has approved four schemes, two each for Bulk Drugs and Medical Devices parks. This opens the door for critical API production and manufacturing of high end medical devices. The Minister exhorted the industry and the states to come forward and participate in these schemes.

Govt launches weather forecast app ‘Mausam’ with access to radar images
Ministry of Earth Sciences today launched the mobile App “Mausam” for India Meteorological Department on its Foundation Day celebrations. Users can access observed weather, forecasts, radar images and be proactively warned of impending weather events. This mobile app is available both on Playstore and Appstore. It is dedicated to the general public and designed to communicate the weather information and forecasts in a lucid manner without technical jargons.

PM Modi greets all CRPF personnel on 82nd Raising Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted all CRPF personnel on the 82nd Raising Day of the force. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, CRPF is at the forefront of keeping our nation safe. He said, the courage and professionalism of this force are widely admired. The Prime Minister hoped that the CRPF will achieve even greater heights in the coming years.

Govt employees retiring during pandemic will get ‘provisional pension’
Government employees retiring during Covid-19 pandemic will be receiving “provisional” pension till their regular Pension Payment Order (PPO) is issued and other official formalities are completed. The payment of ‘provisional pension’ will initially continue for a period of six months from the date of retirement and the period of ‘provisional pension’ may be further extended up to one year in exceptional cases.

The Nation remembers former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary. Popularly known as people’s president and Missile Man of India, Dr. Kalam passed away in Shillong on 27th July 2015, while delivering a lecture to students.

New local search service NearByAll has been launched in India
A new business directory NearByAll that allows people to discover and choose local businesses with the help of reviews and ratings from consumers has been just launched in India. NearByAll is a business fee-free service that helps create a convenient list for a user to find restaurants, salons, repair shops in the localized area based on ratings and feedback. It is currently available in Delhi, Mumbai And Bengaluru, while the countrywide launch of the website is expected by the end of the year.

India, Indonesia Defence Ministers’ Dialogue held in New Delhi
Defence Ministers’ Dialogue between India and Indonesia was held in New Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led the Indian delegation while the Indonesian delegation was led by their Defence Minister General Prabowo Subianto. The dignitary is in India for strengthening the ties between the two maritime neighbours. During the talks, Mr Rajnath Singh reiterated the long history of mutually beneficial interactions between the two countries with a tradition of close political dialogue, economic and trade linkages as well as cultural and people to people interactions.

300 year old Kali temple reconstructed with Indian support in Bangladesh
The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das jointly inaugurated the reconstructed Sree Sree Joykali Matar temple at Natore with the State Minister of ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak. According to a press release issued by the High Commission of India in Bangladesh, the MoU for the reconstruction of the temple at Lalbazar, Natore was signed in 2016. The Government of India provided a grant assistance of Taka 97 lakh for the reconstruction of the historic temple under its High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP). The Sree Sree JoyKali Matar temple is among the oldest temples in Bangladesh. It was built approximately 300 years back in the early 18th century by Shri Dayaram Roy. He was an influential Dewan of Queen Bhahani of Natore and the founder of Dighapatia Royal Family.

SEBI slaps ₹1 cr fine on CARE Ratings in RCom case
Markets regulator SEBI has imposed a penalty of ₹1 crore on CARE Ratings in connection with lapses in assigning credit rating to non-convertible debentures of Reliance Communications (RCom). The case relates to default committed by RCom on the repayment of principal amount of ₹375 crore and interest of ₹9.7 crore due in February 2017 and March 2017, respectively.

Scientists identify the key enzyme behind body odour
Scientists have discovered a unique enzyme responsible for the pungent characteristic smell we call body odour or BO. Researchers at University of York in collaboration with Unilever scientists have found the main enzyme in the bacteria produced in human armpits that causes body odour. This BO enzyme seems to exist before homo sapiens came to existence and further studies may reveal the nature of it, claim scientists.
