Kargil Vijay Diwas
Every year, the 26 July is commemorated as the end of the two month long Kargil conflict with Pakistan which started in May 1999 with India detecting Pakistani intruders in the heights of the mountains in Kashmir’s Kargil area. July 26 is celebrated as the Kargil Vijay Diwas in India, every year, to celebrate the victory of Operation Vijay. Indian Army soldiers fly the Indian flag 15 July 1999 from a peak in Drass after it was recaptured by Indian troops during the first week of July 1999.
Rajasthan govt. make mandatory to submit Aadhaar card number for Covid-19 testing
Rajasthan Health Department has issued fresh guidelines for COVID-19 testing in the state. As per the new guidelines, it is now mandatory to submit Aadhaar card number in the RT-PCR App for the person being tested for coronavirus. According to new guidelines, it is mandatory for testing labs to provide the COVID-19 testing results within 24 hours.
Bihar govt provides full salary to families of government servants who die of COVID-19
Bihar government has decided to provide full salary to families of all government servants in case of their death in fight against Corona. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The full salary will be given to concerned families till date of retirement of the deceased employees and after family pension will be given as per government norms. The government has also taken decision to provide government jobs to a family member of Corona warriors but they can opt either full salary of the deceased employees or government job to a family member.
Maharashtra govt. reduces syllabus for Classes 1 to 12 by 25%
The Maharashtra Government announced that syllabus for Classes 1 to 12 will be reduced by 25% in the State so as to reduce the burden on students amid the Coronavirus pandemic. While schools remain closed, the academic year has started from 15th of June and various alternative methods of learning are being adopted in the State.
Punjab CM announces cash prize for Class 12 students who scored above 98%
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has announced a cash prize of ₹5,100 each for Punjab Board students who have scored more than 98% marks in their Class 12 Board examinations. The state chief minister said that a cash prize of ₹5,100 each will be given to 335 students who scored above 98% marks. He also appreciated the hard work of government school teachers in achieving an ‘unprecedented pass percentage of 94.32%.
Delhi govt. to launch special programme to generate more employment opportunities
Delhi minister Gopal Rai said the AAP government will launch a special programme to generate more employment opportunities in the city, a move aimed at reviving the capital’s economy, which was affected due to the lockdown. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will launch a job portal in the next few days, where the companies looking to hire and job seekers can register themselves.
Delhi govt. to form committee to look into sexual harassment complaints at workplaces
The Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi the national capital will get a five-member committee to look into complaints of sexual harassment at workplaces soon. Delhi Women and Child Development Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said the panel will include members from the government, NGOs and civil society. The decision was taken after the minister chaired a review meeting on implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
PM Modi to launch rapid Covid-19 testing facilities in Noida, Mumbai, Kolkata
Amid the rising number of novel coronavirus cases in the country, which has currently infected more than 13 lakh citizens and killed over 32,000, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch three high throughput Covid-19 testing facilities via video conferencing in order to ramp up testing capacity in the country. The labs will also reduce turn-around-time and exposure of lab personnel to infectious clinical materials.
GeM to be integrated with Indian Railways’ e-procurement system
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and Indian Railways’ e-procurement system are working on ways to integrate both the platforms with a view to further widen the ambit of the Commerce Ministry’s portal by enhancing its buying and selling process.
Centre allocates additional Rs 40 thousand cr under MGNREGA in view of COVID-19 pandemic
In view of the situation arising out of COVID-19 pandemic, an additional allocation of 40 thousand crore rupees has also been made for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme during this financial year. Union Minster for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar has called upon the states to ensure that funds being routed to Gram Panchayats are effectively used for development works at the village level.
5th phase of ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ to begin from 1st August
The fifth phase of the Vande Bharat Mission will begin from 1st of next month to rescue Indians stranded abroad. It will continue till 31st August this year. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the detailed schedule of the mission will be shared soon. He said evacuation and outbound travel of every stranded Indian is a priority and no one will be left behind. The Minister said over eight lakh 14 thousand people have returned since 6th May this year through various means under the Vande Bharat Mission.
Maldives celebrates 55th Independence Day
Maldives is celebrating its 55th Independence day today. President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended their greetings to the neighbouring country on the occasion. Both leaders have written to Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih conveying their greetings and assuring continued support to development and democracy in Maldives. Indian government has also provided 6.2 tonnes of essential medicines under operation Sanjeevani and 600 tons of essential food items to Maldives amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
ICICI Lombard General Insurance has joined hands with PhonePe to launch New health insurance scheme
ICICI Lombard General Insurance has joined hands with PhonePe to launch Hospital Daily cash benefit — a customised policy that allows buyers to get an assured amount if they are hospitalised. The customers are no longer need to produce hospital bills to claim the amount from the insurance company. Launched under Group Safeguard Insurance, this sachet-based group insurance product will bear the hospitalisation cost of COVID-19 patients as well. The new insurance policy permits the users to choose a cover ranging from ₹500 to ₹5,000 for a day of hospitalisation. A minimum 48 hours hospitalisation is required to be eligible for the claim “along with a deductible of 1 day for each claim.” The cash benefits will be applicable for hospitalsation at any government or private hospitals across the country. A discharge certificate from the hospital will be sufficient in most cases for the claim processing, the insurance company said. Customers will get double the insurance cover amount if they are admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).
Amway India to invest additional ₹100 crore to fund growth plans
Direct selling FMCG firm Amway India is looking to invest an additional Rs 100 crore over the next two years to fuel its future growth plans in the country. Amway has committed an investment of ₹1,000 crore in India. It includes an investment of ₹600 crore to set up its manufacturing facility in Nilakotai, Tamil Nadu.
Indian Overseas Bank Appoints SBI’s Partha Pratim Sengupta As CEO
Indian Overseas Bank appointed Partha Pratim Sengupta as managing director and chief executive officer (CEO). Mr Sengupta replaces Karnam Sekar, who retired on June 30. Mr Sengupta is a career banker with more than three decades of experience in SBI, Indian Overseas Bank said in a regulatory filing. The appointment of Mr Sengupta will be till the date of attaining superannuation, which is December 31, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Haryana to host 4th Khelo India Youth Games
Haryana will host the 4th Khelo India Youth Games. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced this through video conferencing. Khelo India Youth Games is scheduled to take place after Tokyo Olympics next year. The Games will be held at Panchkula in Haryana. Mr Rijiju said, usually the Khelo India Youth Games take place in January every year. He said, however, this time owing to the pandemic, we have to postpone it.
Peter Green, co-founder of Fleetwood Mac passed away
Fleetwood Mac co-founder and influential blues rock guitarist Peter Green has died aged 73. Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band, formed in London in 1967. They have sold more than 120 million records worldwide, making them one of the world’s best-selling bands. In 1979, Fleetwood Mac were honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
