HP govt to develop software for deciding bus fares in line with diesel prices
The Himachal Pradesh government is developing a software that would automatically determine hiking or reducing bus fares according to fluctuating diesel prices. It also decided to hike minimum bus fare for the first three kilometres from ₹5 to ₹7 in view of the fund crunch due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Assam govt reduces home quarantine period of recovered COVID-19 patients to 7 days
The Assam government has decided to reduce the home quarantine period of recovered COVID-19 patients from 14 days to 7 days. In an order, it also said that the government will not provide essential items worth 2000 rupees except to the BPL families, elderly people and to Divyangjan.
Central govt. issues certificate of GI registration for Saffron grown in Kashmir Valley
The Union Government has issued a certificate of GI registration for Saffron grown in the Kashmir Valley in a significant decision. While expressing happiness on the development, Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu has said that this is the first major step to put Saffron produced in Kashmir Valley on the world map with authentication. With the GI tag, Kashmir Saffron will acquire more prominence in the export market and would help the farmers get a better remunerative price. The LG has complimented Director of Agriculture in Kashmir for pursuing GI certification and said that restoring the pristine glory of Kashmir Saffron is top priority for both the Union Territory Administration as well as the Centre.
BHU Professor launches website to help people in coping up fear of COVID-19
Cold and Cough are one of the symptoms of COVID-19 and with the change in season many persons who are having cold fear that they could be infected by Corona Virus. A professor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a dedicated website called SARDIJUKAM.Com which will help people in coping up from this fear and will also help in recovery them from depression and other Covid related issues.
First Container train for Bangladesh flagged off from Kolkata
The first container train to Bangladesh was flagged off from the Container Corporation of India Ltd’s (CONCOR) terminal at Majerhat, Kolkata yesterday. The train with 50 containers is carrying FMCG goods like soaps, shampoos and textile fabric. The process for facilitating movement of Container trains from India to Bangladesh started in 2017 when an MoU was signed by Container Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Container Company Ltd. It was followed up by a trial run of the first container train from Kolkata to Bangabandhusetu West station (BBW) in April 2018.
India, UK affirm their commitment towards Free Trade Agreement
India and the United Kingdom have affirmed their shared commitment towards Free Trade Agreement between both the countries. The two sides will engage into early harvest schemes or limited trade agreements in a staged manner marking preparatory steps towards the free trade agreement. The declaration was announced during the 14th Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting which was held virtually yesterday. Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and UK Secretary of State for International Trade, Ms Elizabeth Truss co-chaired the meeting. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Hardeep Singh Puri and his UK counterpart, Minister of State for International Trade, Mr Ranil Jayawardena were also present during the meet.
India extends medical assistance to North Korea
India has extended medical assistance worth about USD 1 million to North Korea in response to a request received from the World Health Organisation (WHO). India is sensitive to the shortage of medical supply situation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
RBI signs documents to extend $400 million currency swap facility to Sri Lanka
The Reserve Bank of India has signed necessary documents for extending a USD 400 million currency swap facility to Sri Lanka to boost the island nation’s draining foreign exchange reserves due to the coronavirus pandemic. The currency swap arrangement will remain available till November 2022.
Nippon India Mutual Fund allows to invest in liquid fund through WhatsApp
Nippon India Mutual Fund, formerly known as Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management now offers to invest in ‘Nippon India Liquid Fund’ through WhatsApp. “This facility will allow existing investors (Resident Individuals) to subscribe the units of Nippon India Liquid Fund (Growth Plan/Growth Option) through WhatsApp,” says the AMC website. To avail this facility existing investors will have to save “+91 8433938264″ on their mobile phones. Once the number is saved, they can just send a ‘Hi’ message through their registered mobile number to start the conversation.
IIT Madras startup generates Rs.22 cr. funding for launching wrist band for detecting COVID symptoms
“Muse wearables”, the start up incubated at IIT Madras by an alumni group along with an NIT Warangal alumnus, is planning to launch the trackers in 70 countries. A wearable wrist tracker to detect COVID-19 symptoms at an early stage will be available in the market next month with its developer, a IIT Madras incubated start up, raising a funding of Rs. 22 crore for the purpose.
