National Broadcasting Day is observed on July 23. On 23 July 1927, the first ever radio broadcast in the country went on air from the Bombay. On the occasion, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has extended his wishes to all the people.

Rs 1 Lakh Fine for Not Wearing Mask, 2-Year Jail for Violating Lockdown in Jharkhand
The Jharkhand government announced a fine of Rs 1 lakh for not wearing masks and a two-year jail term for violating lockdown guidelines.

DRDO establishes COVID-19 testing facility in Leh
The DRDO has established a COVID-19 testing facility at the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) in Leh to augment the existing capacity for identification of coronavirus cases in the union territory of Ladakh. Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur inaugrated a COVID-19 testing facility in Leh’s Defence Institute of High altitude research as cases surpasses 1,200 mark in Leh. It can also be used to training medical staff and personnel for Covid related maneuvers.

PM Modi inaugurates Manipur water supply project
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Manipur Water Supply Project through video conferencing. “This project will give clean drinking water to Greater Imphal and 1,700 village in Manipur. It will provide a lifeline to these people,” PM Mod said as he laid the foundation stone for water supply project. The ‘jal dhara’ from this project will become ‘jeevan dhara’ for 25 cities and towns including Greater Imphal and 1700 villages.

Transport ministry seeks views on plan to include hydrogen-CNG as auto fuel
The road transport and highways ministry issued a draft notification seeking views on its plan to include hydrogen-enriched compressed natural gas (CNG) as automobile fuel. The use of next generation technology such as hydrogen-CNG can lower emissions, while promoting green fuel for automobiles in the country. The government sought views from public and all stakeholders for amendment to Central Motor Vehicles Rules for inclusion of hydrogen-enriched CNG as an automotive fuel.

Ayodhya’s Ram temple to be 161-feet tall, two ‘mandaps’ added to design
The height of Ayodhya’s grand Ram temple would be 161-feet, an increase by 20-feet from the previous design which was prepared in 1988, according to Nikhil Sompura, architect and the son of C Sompura, chief architect of the temple. The earlier design was made in 1988, now over 30 years have passed and so the footfall will increase with time. People are also very enthusiastic about visiting the temple so we thought its size should be increased. In view of this, the height of the temple has been increased from 141-feet to 161-feet.

Turkmenistan gets observer status in World Trade Organization
Turkmenistan has been granted Observer status by the World Trade Organization (WTO ) General Council. Turkmenistan has become the last former Soviet republic to establish formal ties with the trade body. Neighbouring Central Asian countries- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Afghanistan have acceded to the WTO, while Uzbekistan has been in on-and-off negotiations on WTO accession since 1994.

China to give $1 billion loan to Latin American and Caribbean countries for covid vaccine access
China will provide a $1 billion loan for Latin American and Caribbean countries to have access to its Covid-19 vaccine, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told top regional diplomats in a meeting, according to the Mexican government.

Bank of Baroda launches Aadhaar-based online savings account opening facility
Bank of Baroda (BoB), India’s third-largest public sector bank, has launched ‘Insta Click Savings Account’ for all its customers. The Insta Click Savings Account uses a new form of digital KYC and Aadhar based OTP authentication of the customer, which can be operated from the bank’s website, through internet banking or mobile app. The account is activated in real-time, which means the customer can start transacting, using the Baroda M Connect Plus application with the MPIN received on the mobile number, immediately.

Amazon to offer auto insurance in India
Amazon.com Inc’s Indian unit will begin offering auto insurance, making India the e-commerce giant’s first market for the service. Amazon Pay, the India unit’s payments arm, has partnered with private firm Acko General Insurance to offer car and motor-bike insurance. The insurance is currently available on Amazon’s app and mobile website. Amazon’s service will compete with local rivals including digital payments firm Paytm and insurance aggregator Policybazar, which is backed by SoftBank.

SEBI asks MFs to disclose portfolios every 15 days
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) said mutual funds will undertake at least 10% of their secondary markets trade in corporate bonds through the Request for Quote (RFQ) platform of stock exchanges from 1 October. This is aimed at boosting the liquidity on the exchanges for secondary market bond transactions. The regulator also mandated mutual funds to disclose their portfolio every 15 days. As per current norms, funds disclose their month-end portfolios with only a few funds issuing half-monthly portfolios.

Amazon India to open 10 new fulfilment centres
Amazon India announced the expansion of its fulfillment network in India, with 10 new Fulfillment Centres (FC) and expansion of seven existing buildings. With this expansion, Amazon.in will have more than 60 FCs in 15 states, with a total storage capacity of over 32 million cubic feet. These new fulfilment centres (FCs) will be set up in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Patna, Lucknow, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad.

Unilever to retain tea business in India and Indonesia
Packaged consumer goods company Unilever said it intends to retain its tea businesses in India and Indonesia, months after it announced a global a strategic review of the packaged tea business. Its tea business in other markets will be built as a separate entity going forward. The tea business that will be separated generated revenues of €2 billion in 2019.

Flipkart acquires Walmart India’s wholesale business
E-commerce major Flipkart Group has acquired 100% stake in Walmart India Pvt Ltd, which operates the Best Price cash-and-carry business, and has launched Flipkart Wholesale, a new digital marketplace. Flipkart Wholesale will launch its operations in August and will pilot services for the grocery and fashion segment. The new business vertical will be headed by Adarsh Menon, Flipkart veteran. Sameer Aggarwal, Walmart India CEO, will remain with the company to ensure a smooth transition.

Ganesh Lakshminarayanan appointed as CEO of Airtel’s enterprise business
Bharti Airtel Ltd has appointed Ganesh Lakshminarayanan as chief executive officer (CEO) of the company’s enterprise business. Lakshminarayanan will succeed Ashish Arora, who has been promoted as the CEO for global business. Arora will look at expanding Bharti Airtel’s global networks, including submarine cable systems, to serve international and domestic customers.

Riva Ganguly Das appointed as Secretary East in MEA
India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Riva Ganguly Das is appointed by the Government as the Secretary East, in the Ministry of External Affairs. Ms. Das who is an Indian Foreign Service officer of 1986 batch will succeed Ms. Vijay Thakur Singh after her retirement on 30th September this year.

China launches Mars mission as it aims to join US in landing on Red Planet
China launched its most ambitious Mars mission in a bold attempt to join the United States in successfully landing a spacecraft on the red planet. Engines blazing orange, a Long March-5 carrier rocket took off under clear skies around 12:40 pm from Hainan Island, south of China’s mainland.

Bengaluru firm CuraSigna to produce NASA-designed US-FDA authorised ventilators
CuraSigna, a tech company in medical equipment design, is going into the production of NASA -designed and FDA-approved multi-functional ventilators named “VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally).” The firm said in a statement it is among a handful of Indian companies licenced by NASA for meeting the worldwide acute shortage of ventilators needed in treating Covid-19 patients.

Wipro to launch 5G edge services solutions suite
IT services major Wipro Ltd. will launch its 5G edge services solutions suite, built on IBM technology, as part of its commitment to lead the 5G technology implementation space and unlock its potential to generate new revenue streams. The solution is expected to offer customers better data control, reduced costs, faster insights and actions, and more automated, secured operations.

Delhi-based lab partners with Bharat Biotech for Covaxin trials
Delhi-based Dr. Dangs Lab has been selected to partner with Bharat Biotech for the human clinical trials of India’s indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin. The lab has already started receiving samples from 50 to 100 subjects per day from various trial sites for safety testing. DCGI had recently gave a green signal for human clinical trials for Covid-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin.

AIIMS, IITs develop wrist band to track, monitor covid patients
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur in collaboration with IIT Jodhpur and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Nagpur has indigenously designed and developed a ‘smart wrist band’ for tracking & monitoring of Covid-19 positive and suspect patients.
