People of Odisha today are celebrating Nuakhai- a major and mass agrarian festival of the state. Coming a day after Ganesh Chaturthi, this ancient festival is observed on the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Bhadrava. The festival, mainly celebrated across western Odisha, marks the welcoming of the new rice of the season.

10-bed portable hospital opened at NDRF campus in Ghaziabad
Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has inaugurated a 10-bed portable hospital at the National Disaster Response Force’s (NDRF) 8th Battalion campus in Kamla Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad.

Railways have generated more than 6,40,000 man days of work under Gareeb Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan in six states. The states are Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Rail Minister Piyush Goyal is closely monitoring the progress made in these projects and generation of work opportunities for the migrant labourers under the scheme.

Spectacles believed to be worn by Mahatma Gandhi set auction record in UK
A pair of gold-plated spectacles believed to have been worn by Mahatma Gandhi and presented as a gift in the 1900s have broken all records for a United Kingdom auction house by selling for Rs. 2.55 crore or 2,60,000 pounds. The glasses, which were dropped through the letterbox of East Bristol Auctions in Hanham, south-west England, four weeks ago were estimated to fetch between 10,000 pounds and 15,000 pounds.

State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced doorstep ATM service for its customers
State Bank of India (SBI) has introduced doorstep ATM service for its customers. All you need to do is to just send a WhatssApp message or make a call to SBI, and a mobile ATM will come to your location. This will indeed bring respite to customers maintaining social distancing during the novel coronavirus. Ajay Kumar Khanna, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Lucknow Circle informed about the decision to introduce the SBI doorstep ATM service at present in Lucknow.

Aadhaar authentication now open for new GST registrations
New businesses can now opt for a quick authentication of their credentials using Aadhaar, the 12-digit biometric identification number, and secure Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration without physical verification of their premises.

Govt school teacher from Ladakh selected for National Awards to Teachers, 2020
A government school teacher from Ladakh has been selected for the National Awards to Teachers, 2020. Head Teacher of Middle School Taknak Sakti in Kharu block of Leh – Ladakh, Sonam Gyaltsan, has been selected for the prestigious National award. An independent jury constituted by the Ministry of Education, Department of School Education & Literacy has selected the teachers for their excellence in the field of teaching with innovation and dedication.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award
Government announced the National Sports Awards 2020. Cricketer Rohit Sharma, Para-Athlete Mariyappan Thangavelu, Table Tennis player Manika Batra, Wrestler Vinesh Phogat and Indian Women’s Hockey team captain Rani Rampal will receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. The Award is conferred on sportspersons for spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports for over a period of four years.

Dronacharya Award 2020 announced
In Life-Time Category, Dronacharya Award will be given to Dharmendra Tiwary for Archery, Purushotham Rai for Athletics, Shiv Singh for Boxing, Romesh Pathania for Hockey, Krishan Kumar Hooda for Kabaddi, Vijay Bhalchandra Munishwar for Para Powerlifting, Naresh Kumar for Tennis and Om Parkash Dahiya for Wrestling. In Regular Category, Dronacharya Award will be given to Jude Felix Sebastian for Hockey, Yogesh Malviya for Mallakhamb, Jaspal Rana for Shooting, Kuldeep Kumar Handoo for Wushu and Gaurav Khanna for Para Badminton.

27 sportspersons have been selected for the Arjuna Award for consistent outstanding performance for four years.
They are Archer Atanu Das, Athlete Dutee Chand, Shuttlers Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag C Shetty, Basketball player Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, Boxers Subedar Manish Kaushik and Lovlina Borgohain, Cricketer Ishant Sharma and Deepti Sharma, Equestrian player Sawant Ajay Anant, Footballer Sandesh Jhingan, Golfer Aditi Ashok, Hockey players Akashdeep Singh and Deepika, Kabaddi player Deepak, Kho Kho player Kale Sarika Sudhakar, Rower Dattu Baban Bhokanal, Shooter Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary, Table Tennis player Madhurika Suhas Patkar, Tennis player Divij Sharan, Winter Sports player Shiva Keshavan, Wrestlers Divya Kakran and Rahul Aware, Para Swimmer Suyash Narayan Jadhav, Para Athlete Sandeep and Para Shooter Manish Narwal.

Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award
Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award will be given to Anita Devi, Col. Sarfraz Singh, Taka Tamut, Narender Singh and Keval Hiren Kakka in Land Adventure category. Satendra Singh will get the award in Water Adventure categoty and Gajanand Yadava will get it in the Air Adventure category. Late Magan Bissa will be confered the award in Life Time Achievement category.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, MAKA Trophy
Panjab University, Chandigarh will get Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, MAKA Trophy for overall top performing university in inter-university tournaments.

Dhyan Chand Award is given for life time contribution to sports development. Dhyan Chand Award will be given to Kuldip Singh Bhullar and Jincy Philips for Athletics, Pradeep Shrikrishna Gandhe and Trupti Murgunde for Badminton, N. Usha and Lakha Singh for Boxing, Sukhvinder Singh Sandhu for Football, Ajit Singh for Hockey, Manpreet Singh for Kabaddi, J. Ranjith Kumar for Para Athletics, Satyaprakash Tiwari for Para Badminton, Manjeet Singh for Rowing, Nandan P Bal for Tennis, and Netarpal Hooda for Wrestling. Satpal Singh Satti appointed as chairman of 6th State Finance Commission of Himachal Pradesh
Mr Satpal Singh Satti has been appointed the chairman of sixth State Finance Commission of Himachal Pradesh. The newly-constituted commission will review the financial position of the panchayats and municipalities and devolution of resources to these institutions. According to a notification of the state government, Mr Satti will enjoy the status of a Cabinet Minister.

IIT Bombay,Shiv Nadar researchers develop environment friendly lithium batteries
Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Shiv Nadar University claim to have developed a technology for production of environment friendly Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries which will be three times more energy efficient and cost effective than Lithium-ion batteries commonly used at present. The researchers said the technology has the potential to aid multi-billion dollar industries that depend on such batteries. The new battery technology synthesizes a bio-based molecule, capable of commercial-scale production.

Jacques Kallis, Zaheer Abbas, Lisa Sthalekar inducted into ICC Hall of Fame
Legendary South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis, Pakistan batting great Zaheer Abbas and Pune-born former Australian captain Lisa Sthalekar were on Sunday inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame. Among the finest all-rounders to ever play the game, Jacques Kallis represented South Africa in 166 Tests, 328 ODIs and 25 T20s between 1995 and 2014.
