Mumbai deploys ‘smart helmets’ to check for Covid-19
Mumbai, authorities in India’s worst-hit city are turning to high-tech “smart helmets” to speed up screenings and identify suspected cases in the financial capital’s densely-populated slums. The portable thermoscanners- previously deployed in Dubai, Italy and China, enable health workers to record the temperatures of dozens of residents per minute and could emerge as a key weapon in Mumbai’s quest to eradicate the virus from the city of 18 million.

Delhi government to conduct sero survey every month
Delhi government has decided to conduct sero surveillance every month. “It will be done from the 1st till 5th of every month. Delhi’s sero-prevalence study has found that around 23 per cent of the people tested had an exposure to the novel coronavirus in the city.

Jharkhand extends ban on sale of gutka and pan masala till 25 July next year
The Jharkhand government extended the prohibition on the manufacture, storage, sale and distribution of Gutka and Pan Masala containing tobacco or nicotine as ingredients till July 25, next year. The order signed by the Principal Secretary-cum-State Food Safety Commissioner, Nitin Kulkarni, said that under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 the ban is hereby extended for one year, up to 25-7-2021 in the interest of public health. Earlier the Jharkhand government on May 8 this year had banned manufacture, sale and storage of 11 brands of pan masala for a year.

Odisha govt extends retirement age of Medical officers to 65 years
Odisha Government on Tuesday extended the retirement age of Medical officers of Odisha Medical and Health Services (OMHS) cadre and Allopathic Insurance Medical Officers under Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Department from 62 years to 65 years.

Chitkara University adopts Amazon Web Services Educate curricula
Chitkara University, Punjab has adopted Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate cloud computing curricula in BE CSE specialisation in cloud computing and virtualisation. Chitkara University is incorporating the AWS Educate curricula into the mainstream college syllabus with the aim to help develop the next generation of cloud professionals. Chitkara University has prepared the curriculum under the guidance of AWS Educate to make it focused on cloud computing and ‘industry aligned’.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s final film Dil Bechara to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar
Sushant Singh Rajput’s final film, Dil Bechara, will premiere on July 24 at 7.30pm on the streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. Dil Bechara is one of the most awaited films of the year. It marks the directorial debut of casting director Mukesh Chhabra and the debut of Sanjana Sanghi in a leading role. UPI Autopay facility launched for recurring payments up to ₹2,000
National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) today launched UPI AutoPay feature for recurring payments. With this new facility, customers can enable recurring e-mandate using any UPI application for recurring payments such as mobile bills, electricity bills, EMI payments, entertainment and OTT subscriptions, insurance, mutual funds and loan payments, among others of up to ₹2000. If the amount exceeds ₹2000, customers have to execute every mandate with UPI PIN.

ICICI Prudential Life insurance introduced a guaranteed income plan — ICICI Pru Lakshya
ICICI Prudential Life insurance has recently introduced a guaranteed income plan — ICICI Pru Lakshya. This plan offers assured returns along with the protection of life cover throughout the policy term. Under this programme, the policyholder will get a regular annual income based on their premium payment terms. The annual premium starts at ₹30,000. Lifelong income plan are for those who wish to receive the regular income till 99 years of age.

All postpaid users of erstwhile Idea Cellular now under Vodafone Red brand
Vodafone Idea Ltd has completed the exercise of bringing all postpaid users of the erstwhile Idea Cellular under the Vodafone Red brand, the telecom company said in a statement on Wednesday. This is part of the synergies from the Vodafone India and Idea Cellular merger completed in August 2018 and will lead to standardisation for both retail and enterprise customers.

NEC partners UMTC to develop intelligent mobility solutions
NEC Technologies India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese technology company NEC Corporation, has tied up with Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) to jointly develop intelligent mobility solutions in rural and urban India. The collaboration will provide end-to-end solutions, including planning and development, procurement of fleets, funding assistance and implementation of intelligent transportation management systems (ITMS) for state road transport corporations and other public transport operator.

TikTok owner ByteDance to invest in education technology business
A senior executive at TikTok owner ByteDance said the company plans to invest “a huge amount” of capital into its newly-established education technology business but warned that the unit will be unlikely to profit in the next three years. Beijing-based ByteDance has made education technology one of its top priorities alongside short video app TikTok, which is facing scrutiny in Washington over suspicions China could force the company to turn over user data.

Indian-origin nurse in Singapore conferred with President’s Award
A 59-year-old Indian-origin nurse in Singapore has been conferred with the President’s Award for Nurses for serving on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kala Narayanasamy was among the five nurses given the award announced by the Ministry of Health. Each recipient was awarded a trophy, a certificate signed by President Halimah Yacob and SGD 10,000 (USD 7,228).

Dipesh J Shah, an Indian executive, has been chosen by British Government to head the agency for road infrastructure in the country. An Indian-origin executive who has worked across leading public and private sector firms in the UK has been selected as the new Chair of Highways England, the British government-owned company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England’s highways and major road infrastructure.

Punit Goenka has resigned as non-executive, non-independent director of Zee Media Corporation Ltd. Goenka continues to be invested in Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, which includes the company general entertainment and movie channels, its movie studio business and its video streaming platform ZEE5.

Shikhar Dhawan signs agreement with IMG Reliance
Sports management firm IMG Reliance, a joint venture between Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and US-based IMG Worldwide, announced that Indian cricket star Shikhar Dhawan has signed an exclusive worldwide marketing and management agreement with the company. IMG Reliance will manage Dhawan’s brand endorsements and commercial interests.

Mylan gets Indian regulatory approval for tuberculosis drug
Drugmaker Mylan announced that it has received Indian regulatory approval to make tuberculosis treatment pretomanid available in a country that accounts for a quarter of the world’s cases. Mylan will initially make a donation of 400 treatment courses of pretomanid under the Indian government’s National Tuberculosis Elimination Program and will provide commercial access at $364 for a six-month treatment course.
