Delhi government approves scheme for doorstep delivery of ration
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government on Tuesday approved a scheme for doorstep delivery of ration that will be synced with the Centre’s ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme. Announcing the scheme, Mukhyamantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yojana, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said the entire process will take 6-7 months to be implemented. However, beneficiaries will still be able to collect their ration from shops if they want.

Karnataka govt hikes salaries of National Health Mission doctors
The salaries of doctors under the National Health Mission (NHM) has been hiked to ₹45,000 in Karnataka, according to Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar. Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said that the state government will bear the cost of the hike in salaries of the doctors.

Zoom to open tech center in Bengaluru
Popular video collaboration platform, Zoom, is opening a new technology center in Bengaluru. The company already has an office in Mumbai and will hire ‘key talent’ over the next few years across the country.

NCERT adds scrapping of Article 370 to Class 12 textbook chapter
The NCERT has revised a chapter in its Class 12 political science textbook to drop a paragraph on separatist politics in Jammu and Kashmir and to add a brief mention of scrapping of its special status last year. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has revised the chapter in the textbook “Politics in India since Independence” for the academic session 2020-21. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had notified the new syllabus for classes 9 to 12 for the 2020-21 academic session.

CBDT, CBIC ink pact for sharing taxpayer’s data
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) is stepping up its information gathering efforts with a new data sharing deal with the indirect tax administration–the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). A new deal has been signed between the CBDT and CBIC for exchange of data replacing a 2015 agreement. The new deal is significant as it covers the GSTN, the repository of all GST related data.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports partners with UNICEF to strengthen resolve to mobilise 1 cr youth volunteers
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has partnered with UNICEF to strengthen resolve to mobilise 1 crore youth volunteers to achieve goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat. MYAS signed a memorandum of intent was signed with YuWaah (a multi-stakeholder platform formed by the UNICEF) to work in partnership to promote volunteerism among India’s youth. Partnership was launched by Usha Sharma, Secretary, Youth Affairs and Dr.Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF Representative in India while, Kiren Rijiju Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports was also present at the event.

Apple to remove carbon from supply chain, products by 2030
Apple Inc said on Tuesday it plans to remove carbon emissions from its entire business, including its products and sprawling supply chain, over the next decade. Apple has set targets to reduce its carbon emissions which it claims is being generated mostly due to manufacturing, while it also aims to achieve 25% of it by planting trees. To address this, it has made $100 billion dollar U.S.-China green fund along with developing robots for recycling its products.

Jeff Bezos adds record $13 billion in single day to fortune
Jeff Bezos added $13 billion to his net worth on Monday, the largest single-day jump for an individual since the Bloomberg Billionaires Index was created in 2012. Amazon.com Inc. shares surged 7.9%, the most since December 2018 on rising optimism about web shopping trends, and are now up 73% this year. Jeff Bezos has seen his fortune swell $74 billion in 2020 to $189.3 billion, despite the US entering its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. He’s now personally worth more than the market valuation of giants such as Exxon Mobil, Nike and McDonald’s.

Airtel renews pan-India managed services partnership with Ericsson
Ericsson to manage pan-India network operations, Airtel’s network operations centre and field maintenance activities across India. Bharti Airtel has renewed its agreement with Swedish telecom gear maker Ericsson to manage pan-India network operations, the companies said in a joint statement. Under the agreement, Ericsson will also manage Airtel’s network operations centre and field maintenance activities across India.

Google Lens to translate text now available on Jiophone
Google Lens, the camera-based translation solution from Google is now available on the KaiOS mobile operating system (OS), which is used in Jiophone. The announcement comes a week after Google invested $4.5 billion for a 7.7% stake in Jio Platforms, the wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

CARS24 offers loans to customers against existing cars
Online platform to buy and sell pre-owned vehicles CARS24 on Tuesday said it has launched a scheme offering customers loan against their existing car to aid owners who are facing liquidity crunch but do not wish to sell their vehicles. Currently, this service is available in Delhi-NCR, but it can be availed by the customers in Bangalore and Hyderabad by next month. CARS24 said the number of customers selling cars due to liquidity crunch has doubled as compared to pre-corona times.

SpiceJet acqui-hires ixigo subsidiary Travenues
Low-cost airline and air cargo operator SpiceJet has aqui-hired the team and technology platform of Bengaluru-based airline technology company Travenues, a wholly-owned subsidiary of online travel aggregator ixigo. While the technology team of Travenues has joined SpiceJet, the latter will inherit the airline technology and commerce platform built by Travenues, which specialises in mobile apps, user experience, engagement, cross-selling, payments, personalisation among others.

IIT Madras raised ₹113 crore during 2019-20
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has raised a sum of ₹113 crore during the 2019-20 financial year from its alumni and corporate firms via CSR, claiming it to be the highest amount raised in a financial year by an education institution in India. The fund will be used to support augmenting the campus infrastructure, research and development projects and diverse student and faculty initiatives.

India e-commerce to grow 27%, Reliance to capture half of online grocery sales
India’s e-commerce business is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 27% to reach $99 billion by 2024, Goldman Sachs said projecting that Reliance would capture half of the online grocery sales through Facebook. In a report titled ‘Global Internet: e-commerce’s steepening curve’, Goldman Sachs said the COVID-19 pandemic has driven a doubling of penetration of e-commerce globally with categories such as consumer packaged goods driving as much as three years of penetration growth in three months.

SBI General Insurance appoints PC Kandpal as MD & CEO
Non-life insurer SBI General Insurance on Tuesday announced the appointment of Prakash Chandra Kandpal as its new managing director and chief executive officer, effective July 20. He has been with SBI General Insurance as the deputy CEO since June 2019.

Karur Vysya Bank appoints Ramesh Babu Boddu as MD & CEO
Karur Vysya Bank on Tuesday announced that it has appointed Ramesh Babu Boddu as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. In a regulatory filing Karur Vysya Bank said its board of directors in a meeting held on July 20, have co-opted Ramesh Babu Boddu as an additional director and appointed him as the MD and CEO of the bank for a period of three years.

OBITUARY

Madhya Pradesh governor and BJP veteran Lalji Tandon passed away
Lalji Tandon, 85, was admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow since last month due to breathing problems and other health issues. Lalji Tandon dies at 85.
