France-based EDF Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute in Mumbai and International Institute of Nuclear Energy (I2EN) to conduct a pre-feasibility study for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in the civil nuclear sector in Maharashtra. I2EN is the umbrella organization of French stakeholders involved in nuclear education and training.
Maharashtra govt accords ambulance status to vehicles carrying medical oxygen for one year
Maharashtra State Government has accorded ambulance status to the vehicles carrying medical oxygen for one year. A notification was issued yesterday in this regard. The decision was taken in view of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and the necessity of uninterrupted oxygen supply to various hospitals in the state.

Rajya Sabha passes Aircraft (Amendment) Bill 2020
Parliament has passed the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, 2020 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today. The Bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha. It seeks to amend the Aircraft Act, 1934. It has provisions to convert three existing bodies under the Ministry of Civil Aviation into statutory bodies. These three authorities are, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and the Aircraft Accidents Investigation Bureau. Under the bill, each of these bodies will be headed by a Director General who will be appointed by the centre.
Harivansh Narayan Singh elected as Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha
Shri Harivansh Narayan Singh has been elected as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha for the second time. Harivansh’s name was proposed by the BJP president JP Nadda. The opposition had fielded Manoj Jha, an RJD member. Shri Harivansh hails from a poor family based in a Bihar. The 64-year-old JD-U leader is a post-graduate in Economics from Banaras Hindu University. He holds a Diploma in Journalism.
ITEC Day observed by High Commission of India in Dhaka
The 56th ITEC day was observed online by the High Commission of India in Dhaka. over 4000 young Bangladeshi professionals have benefitted from various ITEC programmes since 2007. These training programmes provide an opportunity to share best practises which benefit both the countries.
Bangladesh govt allows limited export of Hilsa fish to India
Bangladesh Commerce Ministry of has given special permission for traders to export Hilsa fish to India on a limited scale in view of the forthcoming Durga Puja. The Commerce Ministry has allowed nine exporters to send a total of approximately 1,500 tonnes of Hilsa to India. Bangladesh had imposed a ban on the export of Hilsa in 2012.
IIM, Kozhikode based incubatee start-up launches wearable gadget for implementing social distancing norms
Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode based incubatee start-up has come up with a unique user friendly wearable device that alarms proximity for helping implement social distancing norms. Known as the Veli Band, this wearable device has been developed by Qual5 India Pvt. Ltd, a startup co-founded by woman entrepreneur Kiranmayee. The start up was mentored and funded by IIMK’s business incubator and entrepreneurship development center. Veli Band helps implement social distancing and location and contact tracing which can help organizations comply with social distancing norms during the current pandemic situation. Veli Band momentarily vibrates, sounds buzzer, and flashes LED simultaneously to notify wearers that another band is within 3 feet.
