Gujarat celebrates Independence Day with themes of Corona Warriors, Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Atma Nirbhar Gujarat
Gujarat is celebrating 74th Independence Day today with full fervor and patriotism. Governor Shri Acharya Devvrat unfurled the national tricolor at Rajbhavan in Gandhinagar. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also unfurled the tricolor at Swarnim Park in Gandhinagar this morning. The main theme of today’s Independence Day celebrations is Corona Warriors, Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Atma Nirbhar Gujarat. Governor Acharya Devvrat unfurled the tricolor at Rajbhavan and planted a tree. The traditional At Home ceremony hosted by the Governor every year has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
West Bengal celebrates Independence Day with tableaus to spread awareness on use of face masks
West Bengal joined the rest of the nation in celebrating the Independence Day in an apposite manner. The main Programme was held at Barrackpore Gandhi Ghat where State Governor Mr. Jagdeep Dhankhar paid floral tributes at the martyrs column. The Chief Minister Miss Mamata Banerjee hoisted the National Tricolour at a programme at Red Road in Kolkata this morning and took guard of honour. She honoured a few COVID warriors and presented the Chief Minister’s Police medals to 10 officials.

PM Modi launches National Digital Health Mission
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Digital Health Mission, while addressing the nation from Red Fort on India’s 74th Independence Day. The National Digital Health Blueprint of the mission was prepared by a health ministry panel to create a framework for the national health stack proposed in 2018 by the NITI Aayog. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launches SRIJAN portal for Indigenization in Defence Sector
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has launched a portal SRIJAN which is a one stop shop online portal that provides access to the vendors to take up items for indigenization. Mr Singh said this will help industry partners to play an active role in the goal of self-reliance in the defence sector. Pursuant to Atmanirbhar Bharat announcement, Department of Defence Production has developed an indigenization portal, srijandefence.gov.in, as ‘opportunities for Make in India’ in Defence.
Pompeo inks deal for US troop move from Germany to Poland
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sealed a defense cooperation deal with Polish officials that will pave the way for the redeployment of American troops from Germany to Poland. President Donald Trump said in a statement that the pact was the culmination of months of negotiations with Poland. Pompeo has used his Europe trip to warn the region’s young democracies about threats posed by Russia and China.

Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli greeted the government and people of India on the occasion of 74th Independence Day today. He called Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning and conveyed his greetings. RBI Board approves transfer of Rs 57,128 cr as surplus to central govt
The RBI Board has approved the transfer of 57,128 crore rupees as surplus to the central government for the accounting year 2019-20. In a statement, RBI has informed that it has also decided to maintain a Contingency Risk Buffer at 5.5 percent. These decisions were taken at the 584th meeting of RBI’s Central Board held earlier today through video conferencing.
WHO Chief Scientist honoured with Tamil Nadu’s CM’s special award
Chief Scientist of World Health Organisation, Soumya Swaminathan was conferred with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s special award, in recognition of her advisory role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in the state. Swaminathan received the award from Chief Minister K Palaniswami on the 74th Independence Day celebration at Fort St George. The WHO representative has been offering suggestions to the state health department to step up measures in fighting the pandemic.
President approves 84 gallantry awards for defence personnel
President Ram Nath Kovind has approved 84 gallantry awards for defence personnel, including nine Shaurya Chakra. The Kirti Chakra has been posthumously awarded to Abdul Rashid Kalas, Head Constable, Jammu and Kashmir Police. Those from the Army who have been awarded the Shaurya Chakra for counter-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir are Lt.Col. Krishan Singh Rawat from the elite Special Forces, Major Anil Urs and Havildar Alok Kumar Dubey. Wing Commander Vishak Nair from the Indian Air Force was also awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni announces retirement from international cricket
Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced retirement from international cricket. Dhoni has not played since India’s semifinal exit from the ODI World Cup last year in July and his comeback is a highly anticipated sub-plot of this year’s IPL, which starts on September 19. India had won their second World Cup title in 2011 riding on the heroics of Gautam Gambhir and then skipper M.S. Dhoni.
