Paper Bag Day 2020
Paper bags are an environment-friendly alternative to the harmful plastic bags and “Paper Bag Day” is celebrated worldwide on July 12. The day aims to spread awareness about using paper bags instead of plastic to help reduce plastic waste that take thousands of years to decompose.

Girl Students To Get Passports On Graduation In Haryana
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced that the girl students will be provided passports on the completion of their graduation degrees and the entire process would be completed in college. “The state government has decided that all girl students should get a passport from their institutions along with their graduation degree”, announced the Haryana CM during a programme “Har Sar Helmet” organised on Saturday to provide learners’ driving licenses and free helmets to about 100 students in Karnal.
West Bengal Orders Advanced Device From Europe Firm, Plans 1 Lakh Daily Covid Tests
With coronavirus cases set to rise, the West Bengal government is preparing to test at least one lakh COVID-19 samples daily and has ordered advanced testing equipment from a Switzerland-based pharmaceutical company. The device, which can conduct novel coronavirus tests on the Cobas 6800/8800 system, was ordered in May and is expected to arrive by mid August. Each of these machines can test 4,000 samples a day. With the Bengal acquisition, it will mean an additional 8,000 tests a day. At the moment, Bengal is conducting 10,000 tests a day in over 50 labs across the state. The machine costs about Rs 3 Cr. A set of 50,000 test kits cost another Rs 2 Cr.
Biocon Gets Regulatory Nod To Use Drug Itolizumab On COVID-19 Patients
Biocon has received regulatory approval for its drug Itolizumab to be used on coronavirus infected patients suffering from moderate to severe respiratory distress. The drug, which is also used to cure the skin disease psoriasis, was cleared by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for usage in the country.
Flipkart signs MoU with Karnataka govt to promote local art, craft and handlooms
Homegrown e-commerce marketplace Flipkart on Friday said it has signed an MoU with Karnataka MSME and Mines department to promote the states arts, crafts and handloom sectors by bringing them on to e-commerce and providing market access. The partnership under the Flipkart Samarth programme will enable local artisans, weavers and craftsmen of Karnataka to showcase their hallmark products to a pan-India customer base, the company said in a release.
Elon Musk is the ‘best’ paid CEO
Tesla CEO Elon Musk grabbed the top spot in the list of highest paid CEOs in US in 2019 while Apple CEO Tim Cook ranked second in the list created by Bloomberg. As per the Bloomberg Pay Index, Musk made $595.3 million in 2019 making him the highest paid CEO. Meanwhile, Tim Cook made $133.7 million in 2019 from Apple.
Comet Of 21st Century Will Be Visible To The Naked Eye From July 14
A new comet called C/2020 F3 NEOWISE which was discovered by NASA’s Near Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer telescope, will be clearly visible to the naked eye from July 14, giving new hope to skywatchers. “From July 14, C/2020 F3, a comet discovered on March 27, will be clearly visible in the north-western sky. It will be visible after sunset for around 20 minutes for the next 20 days.
SpaceX Delays Launch Of 57 Mini-Satellites
SpaceX on Saturday delayed the launch of a rocket due to take 57 mini-satellites into space as part of plan to build an orbiting, global broadband internet system. The company tweeted that it was postponing the 10th Starlink mission “to allow more time for checkouts.”
Sarbjit actor Ranjan Sehgal passes away
Bollywood actor Ranjan Sehgal, who had featured in Bollywood film ‘Sarbjit’, passed away on Saturday, July 11. According to a news portal, he was a very popular name in the Hindi-Punjabi film industry and had also worked in several well-known TV shows. Ranjan Sehgal was reportedly not keeping well since a while and breathed his last at a hospital, passing away due to multiple organ failure.
