Karnataka urges PM to resume medical courses to mitigate manpower shortage to battle covid- 19
Karnataka government requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to allow the state to resume classes for students of medical courses, who can be utilized for covid-19 related healthcare services. Medical education minister K.Sudhakar said that this would help make up for the shortage of manpower.

Govt to restore 4G internet on trial period in one district each of J&K
The Centre informed the Supreme court that 4G internet services shall be restored in one district in Jammu and one district in Kashmir on trial basis for two months, beginning 16 August. The trail period will last for two months and begin on 16 August.

Tribal Affairs Ministry develops nine ‘Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museums
Tribal Affairs Ministry is developing “Tribal Freedom Fighters’ Museums dedicated to the contributions of the tribal people in India to the freedom struggle. Out of nine sanctioned museums, two museums are near completion and remaining seven are at different stages of progress. The Ministry said that by the end of 2022 all the museums will come into existence.

Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched Swachh Bharat Mission, SBM Academy in New Delhi, as part of the ongoing week-long behaviour change campaign Gandagi Mukt Bharat. He launched SBM Academy by dialling the designated IVR toll-free number. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shekhawat said, the IVR based free mobile online learning course on ODF Plus will be crucial in achieving goals underlined in Phase – 2 of Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).

EPFO ensures hassle free service delivery through UMANG app
Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, EPFO has ensured hassle free service delivery through UMANG app during COVID-19 pandemic. Labour and Employment Ministry said, presently a PF member can access 16 different services of EPFO on their mobile phone using the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, UMANG App.

Russia develops first vaccine against coronavirus
Russia has developed the first vaccine against the coronavirus. The announcement was made by President Vladimir Putin during a televised video conference call with government ministers. He said one of his daughters has already been inoculated. Online home sharing platform Airbnb contributed over ₹22 billion to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supported close to 50,000 local jobs in 2019, according to a report released by Oxford Economics, a global forecasting firm.

Equinix acquires GPX India for $161 million
Global interconnection and data center company Equinix, Inc. today announced the acquisition of the India operations of GPX Global Systems, Inc in an all-cash transaction value of $161 million. The acquisition is expected to close in Q1 2021, subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approval.
