World Biofuel Day is observed on 10th August
“World Biofuel Day” is observed every year on 10th August. World Bio-Fuel Day is observed in a bid to create awareness about non fossil-fuels (Green Fuels). Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry today organised a webinar on the occasion of the World Biofuel day with the theme Biofuels towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.
West Bengal govt puts cap on advance deposit for private hospitals
Private hospitals in West Bengal cannot charge patients more than 20 per cent of the estimated cost of treatment or a maximum of ₹50,000 at the time of admission, as per a new directive of the state government. The West Bengal Clinical Establishment Regulatory Commission (WBCERC) has issued a notification in this regard. Clinical establishments would not be entitled to demand more than 20 per cent of the estimated cost of treatment or a maximum amount of ₹50,000 whichever is less, at the time of admission.
Delhi University will give digital degrees online to pass outs
In a relief to those who graduated from Delhi University up till last year but did not received their degrees, DU has activated an online portal for issuance of digital degree certificates to speed up the process. August 15 is the last date by which the degree certificates would have to be uploaded for processing to the ‘My ECFMG’ mobile application. The digital degree certificates will be issued by DU within a week.
No quarantine for air passengers visiting Assam for less than 72 hours
The Sarbananda Sonowal government in Assam said any air traveler to Assam, who will depart from the state territory within 72 hours of his arrival will not have to undergo quarantine provided his Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) result at the airport is negative. Assam Health Department’s Principal Secretary Samir Sinha said the passenger will also have to provide a copy of his return ticket indicating his departure within 72 hours.
Vice President lays foundation stone of housing complex for RS employees in New Delhi
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today laid the foundation stone of a Rs. 46 crore housing complex for Rajya Sabha employees at R K Puram in New Delhi. The land was allotted for the project as early as in 2003.
FM Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates NIP Online Dashboard
Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the National Infrastructure Pipeline, NIP, Online Dashboard in New Delhi through video conferencing. The online dashboard is envisaged as a one stop solution for all stakeholders looking for information on infrastructure projects in New India. The dashboard is being hosted on the India Investment Grid, IIG www.indiainvestmentgrid.gov.in. IIG is an interactive and dynamic online platform that showcases real-time investment opportunities in the country.

Samsung rolls out ‘Made in India’ privacy app on select handsets
Smartphone maker Samsung has rolled out privacy app AltZLife developed at its India R&D centre on select handsets in the country. The app allows users of the Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51 smartphones to quickly switch to privacy mode from normal mode by double clicking the power button and also automatically save images and videos in private folders based on the usage pattern.

The Ministry of Health and Family welfare(MoHFW) filed an affidavit in Supreme court declaring that the quarantined period of doctors and health workers needs to be treated as ‘on duty’ amidst covid-19 pandemic.

Govt may allow cooperative banks to lend under MSME credit guarantee scheme
The government may include cooperative banks as a lending institution under the emergency credit line guarantee scheme (ECLGS) that was announced to support stressed micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME). ECLGS was announced as a part of the government’s ₹20 trillion financial package to help the poor and small businesses tide over the covid-19 crisis, by providing them additional funding of up to ₹3 trillion in the form of a fully guaranteed emergency credit line.
PM launches ₹1 trillion fund to boost agri infra
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a ₹1 trillion agriculture infrastructure fund to give a leg up to post-harvest management and marketing of agricultural produce, in turn helping improve farm-gate prices. The scheme will provide better warehousing and cold storage facilities for farmers.
SEBI provides for assistance to trustees to monitor mutual fund activities
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) issued guidelines to provide administrative assistance to mutual fund trustees for monitoring the various activities of mutual funds. Mutual fund regulations as prescribed by Sebi lays a lot on onus on the trustee board. The officer should be employee of the trustees and directly report to them.
South Indian Bank to set up non-financial subsidiary
The Kerala-based South Indian Bank has obtained in-principle approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to set up a wholly owned non- financial subsidiary. The subsidiary would commence operations once the bank completes the related formalities and after obtaining the final approval from the regulators.
Flipkart launches startup accelerator program ‘Flipkart Leap’
To help new and upcoming startups, e-commerce major Flipkart announced the launch of ‘Flipkart Leap’, the Walmart-owned company’s first startup accelerator program. The 16-week program will open opportunities for startups to prepare their innovative solutions to be market-ready and allow them to win an equity-free grant of $25,000. Flipkart Leap will identify innovative startups to promote the vibrant startup ecosystem and support ‘Start-up India’.

Bharti Airtel Ltd launched ‘Ultra-Fast 4G’ services in Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the commissioning of submarine optical cable fibre project. Airtel has become the first private telco to roll out high-speed 4G services in the islands.
CAIT launches ‘China Quit India’ campaign to boycott Chinese goods
On the anniversary of Quit India Movement, the Confederation of all India Traders (CAIT) on Sunday launched a campaign ‘China Quit India’ to boycott Chinese goods, while its members held protests across 600 places across the country. Several Chinese companies have made large investments in Indian startups in sizable numbers. Chinese investments in government projects and various sensitive construction works should be put under government scanner.
Zoomcar launches telematics software for fleet owners amid slowdown in mobility
Vehicle rental platform Zoomcar has introduced a software stack focused on corporates and fleet owners that will help track driver behaviour and vehicle status in real-time to prevent rash driving and curb vehicular damage. The product ‘Zoomcar Mobility Stack’ (ZMS) includes an IoT device and software that will work across both internal combustion and electric vehicles and is fully hardware agnostic.
Swiggy launches ‘Instamart’, for grocery delivery within 45 minutes, in Gurugram
Swiggy joined the quick grocery delivery bandwagon by launching Instamart in Gurugram to deliver groceries within 45 minutes and it received effusive praise on social media. The move comes at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has hastened consumer preference for doorstep deliveries, especially in metros. With Instamart, Swiggy will be competing with Amazon Fresh, BigBasket, Flipkart Quick and Reliance Jiomart in the quick grocery delivery race.

BCCI invites tender for four-month IPL 2020 title sponsorship
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited third parties to express their interest (EOI) in acquiring the title sponsorship rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 to be held in United Arab Emirates from 19 September. The winning bid will replace Chinese smartphone maker Vivo which was paying ₹440 crore annually as sponsorship fee. BCCI is expected to offer a 20-30% discount on the current sponsorship price owing to challenging market conditions.
