World Heart Day is observed on 29 September
World Heart Day is observed annually to inform the world about heart-related diseases. It creates awareness about stroke which is the world’s leading cause of death. This initiative was launched in 2000 by the World Heart Federation as an annual event and gets celebrated on 29th day of September ever since.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

Indian Railways to get metro-style flap gates in Mumbai’s CSMT station
Indian Railways’Central Railway zone will be installing flap-based gates for automatic entry into the station at Mumbai division’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus ( non-suburban passenger entry) by using QR code tickets. The flap-based gates will be installed for passengers who will be travelling in the long distance trains. These flap based gates have QR code scanner and thermal scanning feature. Passengers will be required to place the QR code on the QR code scanner at the entry gate for validation of the ticket details.

Home Ministry sanctions three new NIA branches at Imphal, Chennai, Ranchi
National Investigation Agency (NIA) will have three more branches in Imphal, Chennai and Ranchi. Union Home Ministry has sanctioned three new NIA branches. The opening of new branches will help in ensuring quick response to any emergent situation in the concerned states by the premier anti-terror investigation agency. The decision will also strengthen the NIA’s capability in the investigation of terrorism-related cases and other national security-related matters. Currently, the NIA has nine branches besides specialized units at Headquarters, New Delhi.

India, Japan naval exercise JIMEX-2020 concludes
Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) & Indian Navy completed 3 days of highly successful Exercise led by CCF2 & FOCWF. Ships undertook Anti-Air & Anti Submarine Warfare exercises, Weapon firings, Seamanship, tracking & tactical manoeuvres. Surveillance aircraft & helos participated making JIMEX-2020(India-Japan Maritime bilateral exercise) most intensive edition so far. Exercises conducted in ‘non-contact’ format & ships waved farewell to each other before parting ways.

India, Denmark to work together in addressing global challenges & solutions on green energy transition and climate change
According to a Joint Statement for India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, the two Prime Ministers confirmed the close partnership in addressing global challenges and solutions on green energy transition and climate change. India and Denmark also agree to be at the forefront in the global fight against climate change. Both countries have set very ambitious national targets on climate and energy that will contribute to an ambitious implementation of the Paris Agreement.

SBI Card has joined hands with American Express to offer global benefits and exclusive privileges for consumers in India. This alliance is another step in our efforts to bolster our premium portfolio, said Ashwini Kumar Tewari, MD & CEO, SBI Card. With this launch, SBI Card will have products across four networks.

PFC signs MoU with Ministry of Power detailing targets for FY 2020-21
Power Finance Corporation Limited, PFC has signed a performance-based Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with the Ministry of Power detailing various targets to be achieved by PFC during FY 2020-21. The MoU was signed by Power Secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai and CMD of PFC R.S. Dhillon in presence of senior officials of the Ministry of Power and PFC.

UP govt bags 8 awards in Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan
Uttar Pradesh government has bagged 8 awards in Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan (GKRA) launched by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. The Statec has also got overall second rank in implementation of Gandagi Mukt Bharat scheme. The awards will be distributed at a virtual ceremony by the Minister of State, Ministry of Jal Shakti on October 2, 2020.

Maharastra govt announces Gan Samragni Lata Mangeshkar award for 2020-21 to Usha Mangeshkar
The Maharashtra government today announced the Gan Samragni Lata Mangeshkar award for the year 2020-21 to veteran female playback singer Usha Mangeshkar. The award is given by the cultural department of the state government. Making the announcement, state culture minister, Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh said the award include cash prize of five lakh rupees, a certificate and a memento.

APPOINTMENTS & RESIGNATIONS

PD Vaghela appointed as new TRAI chairman
Senior Indian Administrative Service Officer Dr P. D. Vaghela has been appointed as the Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India- TRAI. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment. He will replace R.S. Sharma. Mr Vaghela will hold the post for a period of three years or until he attains the age of 65 years. Mr Vaghela, a 1986-batch officer of Gujarat Cadre, is currently Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals.

UAE plans to launch unmanned spacecraft to moon in 2024
The United Arab Emirates plans to send an unmanned spacecraft to the moon in 2024. The announcement by Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also serves as the vice president and prime minister of the hereditarily ruled UAE, shows the rapid expansion of the space program that bears his name.
