Delhi government plans ‘rent a bike’ scheme for tourists
Tourists in Delhi may soon enjoy rides on rented two-wheelers as the Arvind Kejriwal government is firming up a scheme to issue licences for ‘rent a bike’ services in the national capital.

PM Modi flags off eight trains connecting different regions of country to Statue of Unity at Kevadiya
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off through video conferencing eight trains connecting different regions of the country to Kevadiya. These trains will facilitate seamless connectivity to the Statue of Unity. Speaking on the occasion Mr Modi said, today is a historic day for us as the beauty of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat is being highlighted. He said, in the history of Indian Railways, for the first time eight trains from across the nation have been connected with a single destination. Read more details…

No foreign leader to attend as chief guest on Republic Day 2021 due to Covid-19 situation
According to the latest notification of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), it has been decided that there will be no foreign head of state or government as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day event on January 26, 2021, keeping in view, the global COVID 19 situation. It will be for the first time in over five decades that India will not have a chief guest at the event.

PM Modi launches Rs 1,000-crore ‘Startup India Seed Fund’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Rs 1,000-crore ‘Startup India Seed Fund’ on 16 January 2021, while addressing the ‘Prarambh: Startup India International Summit’ 2021. The Startup India Seed Fund would support startups in need of initial capital to start and grow their business and help budding entrepreneurs pursue innovative ideas. This initiative will help in setting up new startups and promote their growth.

Human Rights Council Elects Fiji’s Nazhat Shameem Khan as its President for 2021
Nazhat Shameem Khan, the Permanent Representative of Fiji to the United Nations Office at Geneva, has been elected by the UN Human Rights Council as its President for 2021. Nazhat Shameem Khan was elected during the Council’s 15th annual meeting on 15 January 2021, through a secret ballot process, where she won 29 votes from among 47 members council. She replaces Australian lawyer Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger, who was serving as the President of the Geneva-based human rights body for 2020.

UK invites PM Modi to attend G7
The United Kingdom (UK) has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the G7 Summit as a guest. The G7 Summit is scheduled to be held in Cornwall in June 2021. The summit will be held in Cornwall between 11-13 June and the UK will use its G7 presidency to “unite leading democracies to help the world build back better from coronavirus and create a greener, more prosperous future”.

Joe Biden nominates Indian-American Uzra Zeya to key State Department position
An Indian-American diplomat Uzra Zeya, who had quit the foreign service in 2018 in protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump was nominated on Saturday to a key State Department position by President-elect Joe Biden. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Nazara Technologies becomes first Indian gaming firm to file IPO
Nazara Technologies, firm backed by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, became the first Indian gaming technology company to seek a market debut. Mumbai-based mobile gaming company filed initial public offering documents with the market regulators. Founded by gamer Nitish Mittersain in 2000, Nazara is one of the largest interactive gaming and sports media companies in India. The company is known for its games on World Cricket Championship and Chhota Bheem and Motu Patlu series.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

DRDO develops India’s first indigenous 9mm Machine Pistol named “Asmi”
Defence Research and Development Organisation(DRDO) said that it has developed the country’s first indigenous 9mm machine pistol ASMI. Infantry School, Mhow and DRDO’s Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune have designed and developed this weapon using their respective expertise in the complementary areas. The Machine Pistol is likely to have production cost under rupees 50000 each The weapon has been developed in a record time of four months. The Machine Pistol fires the in-service 9mm ammunition and sports an upper receiver made from aircraft grade Aluminium and lower receiver from carbon fibre. The weapon is aptly named “Asmi” meaning “Pride”, “Self-Respect” & “Hard Work”.

Nominated MLA of BJP in Puducherry, K.G Shankar passed away
In Puducherry, K.G Shankar, (70) the nominated MLA of the BJP passed away. Shankar was a member of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly.
