NECBDC sign MoU with J&K govt on Bamboo Entrepreneurship and Bamboo Infrastructure Development
In order to boost the unexplored potential of bamboo sector, the Ministry of DoNER, through North East Cane & Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) under North Eastern Council (NEC) signed a MoU with J&K Government for Bamboo Entrepreneurship and Bamboo Infrastructure Development. The MoU was signed in the presence of LG, Manoj Sinha and Union MoS (Independent Charge) for Ministry of Development of NER, MoS, PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh at Convention Centre, Jammu.

Odisha govt waives examination fees for matriculation students
Government of Odisha has waived the examination fees for matriculation students of the ongoing academic session. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday ordered the waiver in the larger interest of the students. AIR Bhubhaneswar Correspondent reports that more than six lakh students will stand to benefit from this decision.

‘Uruka’ to be celebrated in Assam
In Assam, all preparations have been made to celebrate Uruka on the eve of Magh or Bhogali Bihu, the post-harvest festival in a grand scale. Community and household feast will be held tonight on the occasion of Uruka. People constructed Meji across Assam, made of thatch and fire woods to be burnt during Magh or Bhogali Bihu.

Cabinet approves proposal for mineral reforms to boost mineral production in the country
The Cabinet approved a proposal for mega mineral reforms, a move that will boost mineral production in the country and bring more mineral blocks into auction. These reforms will be implemented through an amendment to the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 for which a bill will be placed in Parliament in the upcoming session.

Cabinet approves MoU between India, UAE for scientific and technical cooperation
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval to the Memorandum of Understanding on scientific and technical cooperation between National Centre of Meteorology of the United Arab Emirates and Ministry of Earth Sciences. The MoU will enable sharing of knowledge, data and operational products for meteorological, seismological and oceanic services between both the countries. Sharing the real-time seismic data and cooperation in early warnings of sand and dust storms are the other key elements of the MoU.

New Foreign Trade Policy to come into effect from April 1
The meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry was held on the subject “New Foreign Trade Policy 2021 – 26”. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Hardeep Singh Puri, and attended by Members of Parliament and senior officers of the Ministry. During the meeting, it was informed that that the new Foreign Trade Policy-FTP will come into effect from 1st April 2021 for a period of five years.

Atal Innovation Mission launches new edition of Atal Tinkering Lab handbook
Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog launched its new edition of Atal Tinkering Lab, ATL handbook. It reinforces detailed establishment and operational processes of the Atal Tinkering Labs and its journey towards an innovative ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. The handbook named ‘The Atal Tinkering Lab Handbook 2.0’ outlines a practical guidance on structural, selection, establishment and celebration aspects of the Atal Innovation Mission- AIM’s flagship ATL programme. The handbook, which is available online on AIM’s official website, also provides a detailed guidance for schools across the country on building a technically robust mechanism of grass root innovations through ATLs.

Bangladesh armed forces contingent depart for India to participate in Republic Day Parade
A 122 member strong Bangladesh armed forces contingent departed for India to take part in the Republic Day parade on 26 January. The Bangladesh Armed Forces contingent comprises Soldiers of the Bangladesh Army, Sailors of the Bangladesh Navy and Air Warriors of the Bangladesh Air Force. It left Dhaka by a special C-17 Globemaster Indian Air Force Flight. 2021 marks 50 years of the Liberation War of Bangladesh.

Shaktikanta Das headed FSDC sub-committee reviews developments in the economy
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das headed Sub-Committee of the FSDC reviewed the major developments in the global and domestic economy as well as financial markets that impact financial stability. The Sub-Committee discussed scope for improvements in insolvency resolution under IBC, utilisation of data with the Central KYC Records Registry and changes in the regulatory framework relating to AIFs set up in the IFSC among others.

Sebi proposes to separate KYC and account opening process
Capital markets regulator Sebi proposed that KYC and account opening process should be separated in order to standardise the process and avoid duplication. It has been suggested that KYC should be done through stock exchanges, depositories and KYC Registration Agencies (KRAs), and documentation for opening of account for entering into transaction would continue to be the responsibility of concerned registered intermediaries.

Amazon India launches ‘Amazon Academy’ 
Amazon India announced the launch of Amazon Academy to help students preparing for the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) for entrance to engineering colleges. “The online preparation offering will equip students with in-depth knowledge and practice routines required for the JEE, through curated learning material, live lectures and comprehensive assessments in Math, Physics and Chemistry. Amazon Academy will offer students a range of JEE preparatory resources at launch, including specially crafted mock tests by industry experts, over 15,000 handpicked questions.

DRDO develops India’s first indigenous machine pistol ASMI
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the country’s first indigenous machine pistol ASMI. The machine pistol can fire at a range of 100 metres and is in the class of the Uzi series guns of Israel.

NIC and CBSE to jointly launch CollabCAD Software 
National Informatics Centre and Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE will jointly launch CollabCAD Software to provide a total engineering solution for students and Faculty of Engineering Graphics Curriculum. This initiative aims to provide a great platform to students across the country to create and modify 3D digital designs with a free flow of creativity and imagination.

Govt. approves procurement of 83 LCA-Tejas worth Rs 48,000 crore for IAF
Government has approved procurement of 83 Light Combat Aircrafts (LCA) Tejas worth about Rs 48,000 crore from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for Indian Air Forces. The Cabinet Committee on Security, CCS chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met in New Delhi.
