1. World Elephant Day observed on 12 August
World Elephant Day is observed every year on August 12 worldwide for the preservation and protection of the global elephants. The main objective of World Elephant Day is to create awareness on elephant conservation and to share knowledge and positive solutions for the better protection and management of wild and captive elephants.

2. International Youth Day observed on 12 August
The International Youth Day is observed on August 12 annually to draw the attention of governments and others towards youth issues worldwide. 4. Chhattisgarh becomes 1st state to recognise Forest Resource Rights in Urban Region
Chhattisgarh became the first state to recognise Community Forest Resource Rights in an urban area, with the state government recognising the rights of residents of Dhamtari district over 4,127 hectares of forests. Community resource rights over 5,544 hectares of forest within the core area of the tiger reserve area were also recognised.

5. India ranks 122nd on “New Global Youth Development Index”
India is ranked 122nd on a new Global Youth Development Index 2020 measuring the condition of young people across 181 countries, released by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. Singapore ranked topmost followed by Slovenia, Norway, Malta and Denmark. Chad, the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Afghanistan and Niger came last respectively.

RBL Bank has chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com company, as its preferred cloud provider. AWS helps RBL bank to strengthen its AI-powered banking solutions and drive digital transformation at the Bank, adding significant value to the Bank’s innovative offerings, saving costs, and tightening risk controls.

7. Kamlesh Kumar Pant appointed new NPPA chairman
Kamlesh Kumar Pant, a 1993-batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the new chairman of National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) by the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet.

8. RBI appoints Neeraj Chopra for banking fraud awareness campaign
The Reserve Bank of India has started a public awareness campaign to warn people against digital banking frauds. For the new campaign, RBI has roped in Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra.

9. DRDO Successfully Test-Fires Nirbhay Missile
The Defence Research and Development Organisation has successfully test-fired medium-range subsonic cruise missile Nirbhay from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, off Odisha coast. Nirbhay is India’s first Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile.

A well-known spiritual leader who was also an Ayurveda doctor and proponent of Yoga, Dr Balaji Tambe, passed away. The founder of ‘Atmasantulana Village’, a holistic healing centre near Lonavala, Dr Tambe had written several books on spirituality, Yoga and Ayurveda. He dedicated his entire life to promote and popularize Ayurveda and Yoga.

छत्तीसगढ़ एक शहरी क्षेत्र में सामुदायिक वन संसाधन अधिकारों को मान्यता देने वाला पहला राज्य बन गया, राज्य सरकार ने 4,127 हेक्टेयर से अधिक वनों के धमतरी जिले के निवासियों के अधिकारों को मान्यता दी। टाइगर रिजर्व क्षेत्र के मुख्य क्षेत्र के भीतर 5,544 हेक्टेयर वन के सामुदायिक संसाधन अधिकारों को भी मान्यता दी गई थी।

5. “नए वैश्विक युवा विकास सूचकांक” में भारत 122वें स्थान पर
लंदन में राष्ट्रमंडल सचिवालय द्वारा जारी 181 देशों में युवाओं की स्थिति को मापने वाले नए वैश्विक युवा विकास सूचकांक 2020 में भारत 122वें स्थान पर है। सबसे ऊपर सिंगापुर है उसके बाद स्लोवेनिया, नॉर्वे, माल्टा और डेनमार्क है। चाड, मध्य अफ्रीकी गणराज्य, दक्षिण सूडान, अफगानिस्तान और नाइजर क्रमशः अंतिम स्थान पर रहे।

डिजिटल बैंकिंग धोखाधड़ी के खिलाफ लोगों को आगाह करने के लिए भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक ने एक जन जागरूकता अभियान शुरू किया है। नए अभियान के लिए आरबीआई (RBI) ने ओलंपिक स्वर्ण पदक विजेता नीरज चोपड़ा को अनुबंधित किया है। केंद्रीय बैंक (central bank) ने लोगों से थोड़ा सतर्क रहने को कहा है क्योंकि ऐसा करने से उन्हें काफी परेशानियों से बचाया जा सकता है। थोड़ी सी सावधानी बहुत सारी मुसीबतों को दूर कर देती है।

9. DRDO ने किया निर्भय मिसाइल का सफल परीक्षण
रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन ने ओडिशा तट से दूर चांदीपुर में एकीकृत परीक्षण रेंज से मध्यम दूरी की सबसोनिक क्रूज मिसाइल निर्भय का सफल परीक्षण किया है। निर्भय भारत की पहली स्वदेशी प्रौद्योगिकी क्रूज मिसाइल है।

10. प्रख्यात आयुर्वेदाचार्य बालाजी तांबे का निधन
एक प्रसिद्ध आध्यात्मिक नेता, जो एक आयुर्वेद चिकित्सक और योग के प्रस्तावक भी थे, डॉ बालाजी तांबे का निधन हो गया। लोनावाला के पास एक समग्र चिकित्सा केंद्र ‘आत्मसंतुलना गांव’ के संस्थापक, डॉ तांबे ने आध्यात्मिकता, योग और आयुर्वेद पर कई किताबें लिखी थीं। उन्होंने आयुर्वेद और योग को बढ़ावा देने और लोकप्रिय बनाने के लिए अपना पूरा जीवन समर्पित कर दिया।
