Malaysia National Day is celebrated on 31 August
Malaysia’s Independence Day is celebrated on 31 August. Also known as Merdeka Day (Freedom Day), this is Malaysia’s National Day. The day commemorates the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule in 1957. Malaysia was formed in 1963 when the former British colony of Singapore and the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, joined the Federation of Malaya. This event is marked by Malaysia Day. Singapore left the federation in August 1965.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to inaugurate and lay foundation stone of 11 highway projects in UP
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 11 highway projects in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will preside over the virtual function which will be attended by the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways General (Retd.). These projects for inauguration and foundation laying carry a Road length of 363 kilometres, involving construction value of Rs 4,281 crore.

India emerges as key player in global organic marketing
India has emerged as a key player in global organic marketing. Agriculture Ministry has said that India ranks first in number of organic farmers and ninth in terms of area under organic farming. Sikkim became the first state to become fully organic and other states including Tripura and Uttarakhand have set similar targets. North East India has traditionally been organic and the consumption of chemicals is far less than rest of the country.

Biocon Biologics, partner Mylan launch insulin glargine in US
iocon Biologics India Ltd and its partner Mylan N.V. launched their insulin glargine injection under the brand Semglee in the US in vial and pre-filled pen presentations. Mylan, which is responsible for commercialisation in the US, would offer Semglee at a wholesale cost of $147.98 per package of five 3ml pens and $98.65 per 10ml vial, making it the cheapest brand of insulin glargine in the US market.

A Brigade Commander-level Flag Meeting between Indian Army and People’s Liberation Army of China is in progress at Chushul to discuss PLA troops provocative military movements. Indian Army said that PLA troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh.

PhonePe to digitise 25 million small merchants in towns
PhonePe will enable digital payments acceptance for over 25 million small merchants over the course of a year, including kirana store owners across 5,500 talukas. The company will hire a 10,000 on-ground fleet for this.

SpiceJet launches portable ventilator SpiceOxy for patients with breathing issues
SpiceJet introduced a portable ventilator for patients with mild-to-moderate breathing issues. Dubbed as ‘SpiceOxy’, the compact ventilator was designed by engineers of SpiceJet Technic, a subsidiary of SpiceJet. Dubbed as ‘SpiceOxy’, the non-invasive ventilator was designed by engineers of SpiceJet Technic, a subsidiary of SpiceJet. SpiceOxy has been certified by international agency TUV and has also obtained ISO certification.

IITians launch website to help JEE, NEET candidates in need of transport
Students and alumni of various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have launched a portal to help JEE and NEET candidates with transportation facility.

IIT Bombay students launch Scanning Apps
Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call for an Atma Nirbhar Bharat, two final year B.Tech students pursuing Civil Engineering at IIT Bombay, launched AIR Scanner, a free-of-cost document-scanning mobile application. Currently the app is available for Android users only but soon it will be released for iOS users too.

India, Russia declared joint winners of 2020 Online FIDE Chess Olympiad
India and Russia were declared joint winners of the 2020 Online FIDE Chess Olympiad after the final was marred by internet disconnection last night. Russia were initially declared winners after two Indian players, Nihal Sarin and Divya Deshmukh, lost out on time in the final after suffering a disconnection with the server. India had reached the finals of the FIDE Chess Olympiad for the first time.

India’s first female cardiologist Dr S Padmavati passed away
Noted cardiologist Dr S Padmavati has died at 103 due to COVID-19, the National Heart Institute said on Sunday. Dr S Padmavati, an eminent cardiologist, rather the first female cardiologist of the India, popularly known as ‘God Mother of Cardiology’.
