World Hepatitis Day is observed on July 28
World Hepatitis Day is commemorated each year on 28 July to enhance awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes a range of health problems, including liver cancer. There are five main strains of the hepatitis virus – A, B, C, D and E. Together, hepatitis B and C are the most common cause of deaths, with 1.3 million lives lost each year. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, viral hepatitis continues to claim thousands of lives every day. This year’s theme is “Hepatitis-free future,” with a strong focus on preventing hepatitis B among mothers and newborns.

World Nature Conservation Day is observed on July 28
World Nature Conservation Day 2020 is observed on 28 July to raise awareness to protect natural resources, importance of nature in our lives, and the necessity of conserving it. World Nature Conservation Day provides us an opportunity to spread the message about conservation of nature and to recognise that a healthy environment is a foundation for a stable and productive society. Therefore, it is necessary to come together and participate to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage our resources. Resources that we rely upon each day are supplied by the Earth and are limited.

Tata Steel to commission its 1st scrap-based plant in Rohtak
Tata Steel announced that its first scrap-based steel plant in India being set up at Rohtak in Haryana will be commissioned soon. The plant having an annual capacity of 5 lakh tonnes is being set up in collaboration with Aarti Green Tech Ltd, Tata Steel.

Karnataka to set up ₹5000 cr integrated biotech and life sciences park in Bengaluru
The Karnataka government said that it will soon lay the foundation stone for a life sciences park, in line with its plans to create an integrated biotechnology ecosystem to leverage the potential of the sector to attract investments, promote innovation and generate jobs in the city and state. Karnataka is home to 60% of the country’s biotech companies and the state contributes one third of all biotech exports of the country.

The government has notified changes in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms on civil aviation. It will permit non-resident Indian nationals to own 100 per cent stake of Air India.

PM Modi to address Grand Finale of world’s largest ever online hackathon on August 1
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Grand Finale of the largest ever online hackathon in the world on 1st of next month through video-conference. Announcing this today, Human Resource Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon-2020 (Software) will be held till 3rd of August.

Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan launched BIS Mobile App BIS-Care
Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan launched the Bureau of Indian Standard’s Mobile App BIS-Care on 27 July. He also launched three portals namely the Standardization, Conformity Assessment, and Training Portals of e-BIS on www.manakonline.in for consumers.

Road In Lucknow Named After Former MP Governor Lalji Tandon
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation named a road and a crossing in the city after former Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon. The Chauk Chauraha will now be known as Lalji Tandon Chauraha and the LucknowHardoi Road will be known as Tandon Marg.

India-UK tie up for new 8 mn pounds medicinal research
India and the UK will be enhancing their science and research collaboration with five new projects worth 8 million pounds to tackle anti-microbial resistance, which could lead to important advances in the global fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria and genes. UK will contribute 4 million pounds from the UK Research and Innovation Fund for International Collaboration, which India will match with its own resources – resulting in the total funding of 8 million pounds.

IRCTC, SBI Card launch new Co-branded Contactless Credit Card on RuPay Platform
IRCTC and SBI Card together launched their new Co-branded Contactless Credit Card on RuPay Platform. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today dedicated this new card to the Nation. The new RuPay credit card is equipped with Near Field Communication, NFC, technology with which, users can expedite their transactions at the POS machines by just tapping the card on the machines. Cardholders of IRCTC SBI Card on RuPay platform receive upto 10% value back on AC1, AC2, AC3, AC CC bookings made at IRCTC website.

PayU rolls out UPI AutoPay feature for recurring payments up to ₹2,000
Popular online payment solution provider PayU today announced its integration of the UPI AutoPay feature for merchants. With this integration, PayU merchants can offer UPI AutoPay feature to all customers and automate the collection of recurring payments. With UPI AutoPay, customers can create, approve, modify, pause as well as revoke auto-debit mandate on the ‘mandate’ section of their UPI-enabled application.

Wipro chooses Google Cloud to advance digital transformation strategy
Wipro has selected Google Cloud as the cloud provider for its enterprise-wide SAP footprint, the Bengaluru-headquartered software seervices provider said Tuesday. The engagement will bring SAP applications and workloads to the cloud to support Wipro’s 180,000 employees. Wipro will roll out G Suite for some of its employees as a workplace productivity platform. The Azim Premji company expects to gain from G Suite’s strong interoperability and security controls.

Microsoft India most attractive employer brand
Technology giant Microsoft India has emerged as the country’s most attractive employer brand, followed by Samsung India and Amazon India in the second and third place, respectively. According to REBR 2020, Microsoft India scores high on financial health, strong reputation and utilisation of the latest technologies.

Flipkart launches 90-minute delivery service
E-commerce major Flipkart announced the launch of its hyperlocal service ‘Flipkart Quick’ which promises to deliver products from local Flipkart hubs in just 90 minutes. Flipkart Quick will expand to 6 other cities in the next few months. Flipkart is trying to digitize kiranas by bringing them onto e-commerce marketplace.

KKR plans to buy stake in fin-tech startup InCred
Private equity firm KKR is all set to buy stake in fintech startup firm Incred Finance. KKR and InCred have signed an exclusivity agreement under, which the private equity firm plans to merge its retail NBFC arm with Incred.

Tencent-backed Niyo acquires wealth management startup Goalwise
Digital banking fintech startup Niyo Solutions Inc, backed by Tencent Holdings, has acquired mutual funds investment platform Goalwise, in a cash-and-stock deal for an undisclosed amount, as it looks to expand its offerings into the wealth management space. Niyo co-founders Vinay Bagri and Virender Bisht have picked up majority stake in Goalwise. Goalwise has over 60,000 users, with ₹850 crore assets under advice.

Paytm Money appoints Varun Sridhar as new CEO
Paytm Money, the subsidiary of One97 Communications Ltd which operates Paytm, has appointed Varun Sridhar as its new CEO. Varun Sridhar’s appointment comes just months after its former MD and CEO Pravin Jadhav resigned from the startup due to differences with the management of Paytm.

Tunisia appoints interior minister Mechichi as the new prime minister
Tunisia’s President Kais Saiedappointed the Interior Minister, Hichem Mechichi, as the new Prime Minister for the North African country. Mechichi will succeed Elyes Fakhfakh, who resigned last week over allegations of conflict of interest.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, announced publication of his book ‘The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World’ by HarperCollins India. Jaishankar writes in the book that India has had to struggle mightily to gain influence in a domain that could have come more easily earlier as its foreign policy carries “three major burdens” from its past — Partition, delayed economic reforms and prolonged exercise of the nuclear option.
