Arunachal Pradesh assembly passes resolution to bring state under Sixth Schedule
The Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has passed a resolution to bring the state under the ambit of Sixth Schedule of the Constitution besides amending Article 371(H) by provisions to safeguard tribes of the state. The resolution which was moved by Legislative Affairs Minister Bamang Felix yesterday on behalf of the State Government was passed by voice vote following a marathon discussion in the house. Participating in the discussion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, it is a historic resolution moved by the State Government. Stating that it is a long-time exercise, the Chief Minister appealed to everyone for their cooperation as and when required.

Assam Cabinet approves ‘Assam Skill Development University Bill’
The Assam Cabinet has approved the Assam Skill Development University Bill which provides for setting up of Skill University at Mangaldoi at the cost of 900 crore rupees. The meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati also decided to increase the upper age limit for State government jobs for Group III and Group IV for two years so that unemployed youth can apply for jobs upto 40 years. Insurance to the tune of 50 lakh rupees to journalists, home guards and all casual employees succumbed to Covid-19 infection while performing their duties was approved during the meeting.

Delhi govt to launch aggressive contact tracing of coronavirus patients
The Delhi government will scale up COVID-19 testing through its network of 300 dispensaries and hospitals, and start aggressive contact tracing of coronavirus patients in the city. The health minister said Delhi was still halfway behind the peak of the pandemic and the rise in number of positive cases in last few days was not a second wave.

IT minister launches ‘Chunauti’ a programme to further boost startups, software product
Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched “Chunauti”- Next Generation Startup Challenge Contest to further boost startups and software products with special focus on Tier-II towns of the country. The government has earmarked a budget of over 95 crore rupees over a period of three years for this programme. It aims at identifying around three hundred startups working in identified areas and provide them seed fund of upto 25 lakh rupees and other facilities.

The Bureau of Police Research and Development, BPR&D is celebrating its Golden Jubilee Anniversary. Greeting BPR&D on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, over the last 50 years, the Organization has been unwavering in its commitment in the service of the nation. He said, Government has laid emphasis on a modern, effective and sensitive security architecture that inspires a sense of safety among all sections of the society.

Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra today launched the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi, PM SVANidhi online dashboard through video conferencing. The online dashboard is dynamic, interactive and will provide a one stop solution to all stakeholders looking for information and tracking monitoring of progress of PM SVANidhi up to city level.

PMJDY completes six years
Central government’s flagship financial inclusion programme Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has completed six years. The scheme was launched on 28th of August in 2014 with an aim to provide universal access to banking facilities to the people in the country. While launching the programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described the occasion as a festival to celebrate the liberation of the poor from a vicious cycle. Over 40 crore 35 lakh bank accounts have been opened under the scheme since its inception and One lakh 31 thousand crore rupees have been deposited in these accounts. About eight crore PMJDY account holders are receiving Direct Benefit Transfer from the Government under various schemes.

Vande Bharat Mission Phase 6 to begin on Sept. 1
Phase Six of the Vande Bharat Mission is scheduled to begin on 1st of September. Phase Five of the Mission will be over on 31st August. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said flights are being rescheduled by Air India group and private carriers based on an assessment of demand by Indian missions abroad.

No fuel without pollution certificate
The Supreme Court set aside a National Green Tribunal order directing that vehicles not complying with pollution under control (PUC) norms in Madhya Pradesh would not be given petrol at fuel stations.

Beximco Pharma to cooperate with Serum Institute of India for supply of COVID 19 Vaccine in Bangladesh
The Bangladeshi generic medicine producer Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (BPL) has announced its intention to cooperate with the Serum Institute of India (SII) for the exclusive supply of its vaccine in Bangladesh. Heads of both the companies hailed it as a ‘landmark agreement’ to help mitigate the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

India, Singapore sign Implementing Arrangement on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief
India and Singapore signed Implementing Arrangement on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief. The two countries held a Defence Policy Dialogue via video conferencing today. It was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar and Permanent Secretary (Defence), Singapore Mr Chan Heng Kee.

Bangladesh remembers its national poet Nazrul on his death anniversary
Bangladesh observed the 44th death anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Various social and cultural organisations organised programmes observing health guidelines to commemorate the death anniversary of Nazrul. TV Channels aired special programmes to mark the day. Dhaka University held a virtual discussion Chaired by the Vice Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman. It was addressed by the national professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam.

Sri Lanka to ban imports of plastic goods to protect elephants
Sri Lanka will ban the import of most plastic products in a bid to protect wild elephants and deer that die eating the waste. Plastic in Sri Lankan landfills is a major killer of elephants, with autopsies showing kilos of it in the stomachs of animals. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given wildlife officials two years to implement a plan to reduce human-elephant conflict that has claimed the lives of 607 elephants and 184 people.

RBI to sell gold at ₹5,117 per gram in latest issue of sovereign gold bond
The Reserve Bank of India has fixed the rate for investing in the sixth tranche of sovereign gold bond at ₹5117 per gram. The issue opens on Monday and closes on September 4. The nominal value of the bond is based on the simple average closing price, as published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, for gold of 999 purity of the last three business days of the week preceding the subscription period.

Maruti Suzuki partners Myles Automotive to expand vehicle subscription service
Maruti Suzuki India announced partnership with Myles Automotive Technologies to expand its vehicle subscription service for individual customers under ‘Maruti Suzuki Subscribe’ brand in Hyderabad and Pune as a pilot project. Under the Maruti Suzuki Subscribe, customers can choose to subscribe a new Swift, Dzire, Vitara Brezza and Ertiga from Maruti Suzuki ARENA.

Amazon hires VOOT’s Akash Banerji to head mobile business development
Akash Banerji, business head at VOOT, the video streaming platform owned by Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd has moved to Amazon India, said people familiar with the development. Banerji will head the company’s central mobile business development unit that works across different verticals- video, music, Kindle and others and the multiple strategic distribution partners such as telcos. His role will be to foster synergies with partners and create new product expansion strategies with the aim to drive subscription numbers and revenues.

India placed 72nd on global list with average monthly wage of ₹32,800
India has been ranked a lowly 72nd among 106 countries in terms of the average wage per month, while Switzerland topped the chart, according to a global ranking of average wages prepared by Picodi.com. Switzerland, where the average wage amounts to ₹4,49,000, topped the ranking, while in Cuba the average wage is the lowest at ₹2,700.

Renowned singer Archana Mahanta passed away
Noted singer Archana Mahanta passed away in Guwahati in a private hospital. She was 72. Ms. Mahanta was also a reputed artist of All India Radio, Guwahati also.
